Assistant Principal of Culture and Expanded Learning Pool

Position Overview Assistant Principal of Culture and Expanded Learning – responsible for creating safe and affirming school environments, managing after‑school programs, and supporting staff and students throughout the Core Day and after‑school programming. Key Responsibilities Develop and enforce school-wide universal expectations for student behavior and hold students accountable in collaboration with the leadership team. Create safe, inclusive, learning‑focused school environments throughout the Core Day and ASP. Develop student leadership pathways and opportunities for agency in culture and community building. Track progress towards school-wide goals around attendance, behavior, and academics and celebrate student progress. Coach teachers to implement foundational classroom management practices. Support community members to restore harm and facilitate accurate documentation of student referrals and family contact in AERIES. Clearly communicate with stakeholders, especially families, about referrals and intervention progress. Partner with families of students requiring additional support; conduct lawful suspensions when required by law. Lead the school's Culture Team. Collaborate with Coordination of Services Team to identify students needing additional behavioral support and build, implement, track data around individual behavior plans. Implement LCPS‑adopted SEL curriculum through Crew, community meetings, and targeted skill groups. Direct expanded learning at the site (Lunch, Recess, ASP): hire, supervise, and evaluate a team of "Teachers in Training"; create structured, safe, predictable experiences. Oversee ASP operations: register, recruit, retain students; enforce grant policies and maintain attendance records. Coordinate special events such as student/family orientations, family nights, student showcase/performances, and share photos. Implement academically‑enriching ASP programming in compliance with Expanded Learning Grants. Mentor new teachers: onboarding, training on LCPS practices, Common Core, etc.; serve as year‑long induction coach. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor. Qualifications & Competencies B.A. or B.S. required; relevant Master's degree a plus. 3+ years of experience working with urban youth. Experience effectively leading teams and adults. Knowledge of restorative justice, responsive classroom, Expeditionary Learning, or other progressive positive behavior approaches. Appropriate California Credential a plus. Bilingual in Spanish a plus. Strong organizational and detail orientation with compliance to grant and policy requirements. Proficiency in adult learning theory, emotional intelligence, systems thinking. Skilled collaborator, communicator, and relationship-builder. Design and facilitate data-driven, equity-focused teams and professional learning. Ability to develop strategic plans and collaborate to achieve them. Comfortable with change, growth, and possibility. Environmental Requirements Work in loud environments such as cafeterias, playgrounds, classrooms, and large professional settings. Indoor/Outdoor adaptability to all weather conditions related to outdoor activities and field trips. Work under fluorescent lighting in air-conditioned and heated environments. Physical Demands Ability to see, hear and speak continuously; sit and stand for extended periods. Ability to stop, extend, kneel, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to walk for long periods; occasionally move quickly or run over uneven surfaces. Skillful repetitive finger and hand movements for keyboarding and whiteboard usage. Occasional travel to sites for professional development outside LCPS. Supervision This position reports to the Principal. Time Commitment & Salary 12-month, full-time salaried exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience; benefits include nearly 5 weeks of holidays, 10 days paid time off, generous sick and personal leave, 100% employee health coverage (50% for dependents), 8% employer-matching retirement program, and FSA benefits.
