Location: Roanoke, VA (Hybrid, 2-3 days onsite) - Must be local to client location

Duration: 12 Month Contract to hire full time

Rate: 60/HR+ Type: W2 role - Must be able to work directly on our W2 without sponsorship

Overview:
We are looking for a talented and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in SQL development and performance tuning, particularly within the utility sector. This position involves a blend of database administration and development responsibilities, focusing on optimizing database performance and supporting application teams in real-time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems.



Responsibilities

• Database Administration
• Monitor and maintain database health, performance, and security.
• Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies.
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Manage user access and roles, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.
• Perform audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain security standards.
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries and overall database performance.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database systems.
• Implement indexing, tuning strategies, and partitioning for performance gains.
• Resolve platform-related issues and participate in incident response.
• Coordinate with vendors for product-related issues, patches, and bug fixes.
• Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and business analysts to understand new requirements and recommend high-level direction and approach.
• Provide support for development, testing, and production environments.
• Develop scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and automation tasks.
• Utilize tools like shell scripting, Python, or Perl to automate processes.

Required Skills and Experience

• SQL Server DBA
• 5-7 years of Proven experience in installation, configuration, and management of SQL Server (including multiple instances on a single server/VM).
• Expertise in performance tuning, index management, and SQL query optimization.
• Strong skills in TSQL and PowerShell.

Nice to Haves

• Working experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Background in utility space, real-time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems is an added advantage.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor s degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant experience
• OR Associate s degree in a related field with 4 years of relevant experience
• OR High school diploma/GED with 6 years of relevant experience
