Compensation Analyst 3

Job Summary Salary Range: $109k–$139k Compensation Analyst – The Compensation team provides consultation and informs decision‑making in alignment with UCSF's goals of attracting and retaining talent. The role includes consulting with UCSF leaders, overseeing compensation administration, program review, and presenting recommendations for improvements. Responsibilities Consulting and support to assigned departments: Provide guidance on department structures, job classifications, regulatory requirements, and job description development. Evaluate and classify jobs, analyze employee compensation, and administer the organization’s compensation programs and total rewards initiatives. Conduct data and market analyses, prepare findings, and recommend actions. Review proposed salary adjustments within established guidelines. Advise management on state and federal regulations, compensation policies, HR procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Consult with recruiters and hiring managers on salary setting. Interpret market-based compensation survey data to support talent and retention goals. Program administration: Act as point person for limited‑scope compensation programs (e.g., equity programs, wage scale implementations, at‑risk plans). Prepare studies and recommendations on incentive and supplemental pay programs. Assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of HR/compensation systems and upgrades. Review job descriptions for consistency with UCSF standards. Other compensation support: Participate in compensation surveys, analyze competitive salary information, and mentor others in survey participation. Deliver compensation training and communications, draft resources and guidelines. Collaborate with Compensation and HR teams to achieve annual goals. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training. At least 3 years of progressive experience in HR or Compensation. Comprehensive knowledge of the compensation function and general HR knowledge. Experience developing and implementing compensation programs for a client group. Strong analytical skills for complex data analysis, modeling, and recommendation. Strong computer skills for data analysis and reporting. Excellent interpersonal skills to interface with UCSF leaders and HR teams. Ability to work collaboratively, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Project management and market pricing skills. Demonstrated experience evaluating risk and informing decision‑making in a complex environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience consulting with leaders on compensation and talent management. Prior experience in a union environment. Experience in a large academic medical center. Experience with Oracle Cloud / PeopleSoft, Cognos reporting, and MarketPay. Salary Information The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Placement within the salary range is based on work experience, internal equity, and, for union positions, collective bargaining agreement rules.
