Role Definition Evaluates commercial loan requests by reviewing applicants' credit histories and analyzing financial statements in order to approve or deny loan applications. Responsibilities • Reviews the credit history, profitability and liquidity of clients to assess the risk level involved in credit extension or money lending. • Consults with customers to verify financial and credit transactions; responds to customer inquiries and resolves customer complaints. • Communicates with credit associations and other relevant authorities about the credit history of customers. • Analyzes financial data to determine customers' risk profile for commercial loans; recommends approval or denial of loan applications. Degree Requirement Degree or equivalent experience desired Skill Descriptors Finance and Accounting: Knowledge of finance and accounting practices, financial analysis, and reporting; ability to apply finance knowledge appropriately to diverse situations. Level Basic Understanding: • Describes the purpose of basic financial reports. • Explains basic practices for financing projects; gives examples. • States local financial tracking and reporting requirements. • Explains basic financial and accounting concepts and terminology. Service Excellence: Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner. Level Working Knowledge: • Provides a quality of service that customers describe as excellent. • Resolves common customer problems. • Responds to unexpected customer requests with a sense of urgency and positive action. • Provides direct service to internal or external customers. • Documents customer complaints in a timely manner. Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. Level Working Knowledge: • Accurately gauges the impact and cost of errors, omissions, and oversights. • Utilizes specific approaches and tools for checking and cross-checking outputs. • Processes limited amounts of detailed information with good accuracy. • Learns from mistakes and applies lessons learned. • Develops and uses checklists to ensure that information goes out error-free. Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Level Working Knowledge: • Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. • Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions. • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns. • Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions. • Identifies the major forces, events, and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand. Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Working Knowledge: • Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient. • Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. • Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. • Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate. • Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups. Credit Analysis and Verification: Knowledge of credit analysis and verification; ability to utilize tools and techniques to determine the credit-worthiness of an applicant. Level Basic Understanding: • Identifies major tasks and responsibilities of credit analysis staff. • Lists basic tools and techniques used to perform credit analysis. • Describes the role and importance of credit analysis and verification. • Clarifies the role of technology in credit analysis and verification. Financial Statement Analysis: Knowledge of financial statement and balance sheet; ability to analyze financial statement data and determine the credit-worthiness of a business enterprise. Level Working Knowledge: • Works with balance sheets and income statements to evaluate credit worthiness. • Selects examples of common red and green flags. • Explains the roles of FASB and general accounting principles in the analysis process. • Explains the relationship of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flows in the analysis process. • Examines financial statement for validity and general correctness; highlights problems or issues. Loan Origination: Knowledge of the skills, methods and technologies used to process new loan applications; ability to perform loan origination activities while adhering to established policies and procedures. Level Working Knowledge: • Performs customer service with regard to loan application processes. • Verifies collected customer loan information to ensure accuracy. • Prepares credit risk reports for management. • Maintains and updates information in various application channels and loan origination systems. • Participates in optimizing loan origination workflow. This position requires incumbents to be onsite in the Nashville main office 5 days per week. Compensation & Benefits: Summary Pay Range: $74,124.00 - $118,608.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience.
