Clinical Manager Med Surg

SUMMARY The Nursing (RN) Clinical Manager is responsible for management and oversight of the assigned operational unit(s). The RN Clinical Manager is responsible for translating and supporting the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Department for the delivery of nursing services on one or more designated patient care units. The RN Clinical Manager has the delegated authority to make decisions in the areas of patient care delivery, human resource management, and budgetary development and compliance. RESPONSIBILITIES Consistently applies the corporate values of respect, honesty, and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence. Improves the health status of the region’s people through customer-friendly, geographically accessible, high-value services within a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Responsible for 24‑hour oversight of one or more patient units, directing and coordinating resources for patient care and families. Supports a trauma‑informed, least restrictive environment that is free from coercion or retaliation. Fosters a culture of safety with team approaches to patient safety, reporting of safety incidents, and focus on staffing, communication, and prevention of adverse outcomes. Monitors and evaluates patient care assignments based on patient needs and acuity. Sets strategic vision and unit-based goals consistent with departmental and institutional priorities, monitors progress, and schedules regular staff meetings for operational updates and quality information. Develops employees through education, growth experiences, and performance feedback. Ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency requirements and environmental and safety standards. Implements unit-level quality improvement activities aligned with the hospital’s Plan. Participates on hospital, departmental, and system-wide committees. Monitors, controls, and adjusts operating budgets, completing variance reports and taking corrective actions. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Interviews and recommends hiring conditions for new staff while coordinating with Human Resources. Assesses customer requirements and responds appropriately. Holds Safety Care Level 1 certification when required. BASIC KNOWLEDGE BSN or active matriculation in a BSN Program; Master’s Degree preferred. Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or states participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact. Required certifications per department standards. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan, considering aging processes, human developmental stages, and cultural patterns. EXPERIENCE Three to five years of relevant experience.
