Staff Network Engineer

Position Summary Staff Network Engineer – CVS Pharmacy, Inc., Woonsocket, RI. The role focuses on implementing strategies and activities for building and maintaining network infrastructure, ensuring security, performance, and compliance. Responsibilities Implement systems that protect sensitive data, maintain operational integrity, and ensure compliance with network security standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements. Design and develop network engineering strategies, roadmaps, and initiatives to enhance performance, security, and availability. Coordinate externally with network equipment vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and service level agreements. Act as a top‑level specialist in network engineering, providing technical expertise, guidance, and support to resolve complex issues and address escalations. Consult internal stakeholders to align network strategies with organizational goals and drive cross‑functional initiatives. Develop actionable insights on network performance metrics, generate reports, and recommend improvements. Manage day‑to‑day operations of network engineering teams, including resources, budgets, and timelines. Consult on network engineering projects from planning to execution, ensuring effective project management and timely delivery. Develop strategy and provide direction for network engineering activities, including design, implementation, and maintenance of robust and scalable infrastructure. Qualifications Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Three years of experience in the role or related occupation. Three years of experience in each of the following: Configuring routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, static routing, and policy‑based routing. Designing and implementing data center migration. Implementing Cisco ACI fabric, EPG, contracts, and Layer 3 connectivity in a datacenter. Using Cisco Nexus dashboards and network insights to monitor networks. Building Cisco ACI fabric and configuring Layer 3 out‑sites, endpoint groups, switch profiles, contracts, and VRFs. Implementing software‑defined networking and network virtualization technologies. Integrating cloud services with software‑defined and networking technologies. Upgrading, installing, configuring, and administering security and monitoring tools in Linux environments. Conducting patching and package installations in Linux/Unix environments. Generating root cause analysis (RCA) for critical issues of Layer 1/2/3 problems. Providing redundancy through Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP) and load sharing for effective router utilization. Configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting VTP, STP, trunking, and EtherChannel. Packet capturing and troubleshooting network problems with Wireshark. Implementing, configuring, and troubleshooting various routing protocols, including BGP. Performing network monitoring and providing analysis using Wireshark and SolarWinds. Compensation Pay Range: $172,370.00/year to $260,590.00/year. Position eligible for bonus, commission, short‑term incentive, and equity award programs. Salary will vary based on experience, education, geography, and other factors.
