Medical Assistant (Externship)

Medical Assistant Externship ProgramThis is a 6 week paid externship program where you will apply medical assistant knowledge and skills in a real clinical environment, assisting the physician, PA, or NP in support of medical care of urgent care patients. Day to day activities will vary from triage, answering phones, taking medical histories, to performing lab work. You will practice clinical and administrative tasks under direct supervision, develop confidence, efficiency, and accuracy in patient care, gain exposure to daily clinic workflows and patient flow management, strengthen communication, teamwork, and professionalism, and demonstrate readiness for entry-level medical assistant employment.Essential duties and responsibilities include demonstrating a high level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary to consistently receive and greet visitors, patients, and staff members in a professional manner. You will perform selected medical assisting and administrative duties, perform direct patient care as instructed by the physician, PA, or NP, perform lab tests as directed by the physician, PA, or NP, prepare patients for examination and treatment, take patient histories and vital signs, prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, administer injections and apply dressings as instructed, distribute medications as directed by physician, PA, or NP, require ability to perform venipuncture, prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization, assist provider in preparing for minor surgeries and exams, assist with scheduling of tests and treatments, maintain equipment for use at all times, in a clean and safe condition, make suggestions to improve work methods, and other duties may be assigned.About you: high school diploma or equivalent, current enrollment in or recent completion of an accredited medical assistant program, 1-2 letters of recommendation of endorsement from accredited medical assistant program supervisor or lead, BLS/CPR certification preferred.As a physician-founded and led organization, ensuring everyone has access to quality healthcare is what inspires us.
