Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia, is seeking a full‑time Physician (Urologist) to provide comprehensive urologic care for patients within the scope of urology. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency may be ACGME‑approved, AOA‑approved, or another residency followed by at least five years of verified practice in the United States, as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Resident physicians currently enrolled in an ACGME or AOA accredited residency program who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis only. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged, but will have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience: Board certified (not required). Lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy except in emergent situations. Pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders, walking, standing, kneeling, and repeated bending intermittently. Duties Urology consultation for inpatients and outpatients. Evaluate and treat urology emergencies in the Emergency Department, outpatient clinic, inpatient ward, ICU, and operating room. Provide full‑range inpatient and outpatient urology procedures. Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other healthcare providers in accordance with applicable policies and regulations. Admit, work‑up, and treat surgical or medical patients presenting with genitourinary illnesses or injuries. Evaluate patients for changes in physical status, laboratory values, and vital signs prior to surgery. Document patient notes in the medical records with times, dates, and signatures. Perform minor and major surgical procedures. Provide patients with risk, benefit, and alternative treatment options and secure informed consent before invasive procedures. Conduct regular postoperative follow‑up, patient teaching, and wound care upon discharge. Perform emergency surgical procedures as needed. Complete all electronic clinical daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner. Participate in all surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives.
