Consultant, Financial Reporting Advsior

As a Consultant in Financial Reporting, you will plan, coordinate, and perform the most complex functions associated with GAAP and statutory financial reporting, premium taxes, payroll taxes, and statistical and supplemental statutory reporting requirements. Your work will involve researching and drafting new disclosures or reports, supervising staff, and collaborating closely with leaders across the organization. Responsibilities Lead the planning, preparation, and review of complex federal, state, and local statutory financial statements and reports, supplemental and statistical forms, and related journal entries in accordance with state and federal laws, regulations, and/or instructions. Coordinate and actively participate in the development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned area(s). Manage and review quarterly financial results, analyze trends, and ensure accurate reporting and integrity of data to avoid fines and penalties. Assess the potential impact of pending legislation and proposed accounting policies, and implement new or revised accounting policies, procedures, and disclosures with the Accounting policy team. Lead financial pre‑close and close discussions, maintaining close task management and tracking through workflow tools to meet deadlines. Ensure timely initiation of related tax and fee payments as required by state and federal laws, regulations, and instructions. Provide audit evidence and support to external audit firms and state departments of insurance, and respond to inquiries from auditors, IRS, state departments, examiners, and regulatory agencies on analytical inquiries, compliance, and data quality. Supervise the optimization of financial and regulatory reporting processes, finding opportunities to streamline reporting across the organization. Coordinate and review work performed by less experienced staff and offshore contractors. Research and counsel senior management on key competitor and industry financial reporting practices. Prepare, review, and maintain documentation and testing of controls over financial reporting, and assist in implementing and operating internal controls over financial and regulatory reporting. Lead initiatives to strengthen Controllership's analytic competencies and coordinate multi‑team efforts on selected projects. Serve as a resource manager to support high‑demand timeframes on the reporting and reconciliation teams. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships Reports to Manager, Director, or Associate Vice President. May serve as a lead to less experienced associates or, in special circumstances, lead up to two associates. Qualifications Education: Undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting, finance, insurance, or related academic subject areas preferred. License/Certification: CPA or relevant industry designation (e.g., CPCU, IIA, FLMI) preferred. Experience: More than five years in public accounting, equivalent industry experience, or relevant insurance experience. Technical knowledge: GAAP and statutory accounting bases, insurance regulatory requirements, complex financial statement preparation including consolidation of companies/subsidiaries, financial/statistical analysis, principles of taxation and related impacts. Systems knowledge: Accounting and/or business operating systems, project management concepts and techniques. Skills: Strong self‑starter, organizational skills, self‑motivation, continuous improvement focus, problem‑solving and analytic mindset, ability to adapt quickly, strong communication skills, ability to interpret changes in financial or statistical reporting and legal‑regulatory requirements. Preferred technical skills: Comfortable using Essbase, PeopleSoft, and OACS. Leadership: Ability to supervise and develop associates, manage multi‑team projects. SuccessFlex basis – required to work in the office two days per week as per department schedule. Overtime eligibility: Exempt (not eligible).
