Lab Support Technician Lead - Inpatient

Hourly Pay Range: $20.69 - $30.00 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors. Position Highlights: Position: Lead Lab Support Tech – Inpatient Location: Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville, IL Full Time: 1.0 FTE Hours: 1:30pm – 10:00pm, Monday‑Friday, may include rotating weekends and holidays A Brief Overview: Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, prepares, collects, logs and labels specimens for testing; registers patient information and orders laboratory tests in the computer system; arranges specimens for further processing by Laboratory staff; orients and provides training to Lab Processing Tech and Phlebotomy students; coordinates staff continuing education; prepares written material of clinical procedures. What you will do: Actively promote patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members; treat patients with respect and caring; follow up and resolve patient complaints; instruct and encourage coworkers to treat patients and hospital staff courteously; enhance the laboratory’s image by reacting positively with all customers. Coordinate, train, and evaluate phlebotomy students in laboratory clinical procedures along with OPCT Lead. Orient, train and assess competency of Phlebotomists and Lab Processing Techs on new and current clinical procedures. Assist Supervisor in establishing section work schedules for assigned staff to ensure adequate shift coverages. Develop and coordinate the continuing education of staff, including choosing topics and scheduling speakers. Assist in development of procedures and policies for support services. Perform the duties of a Lab Processing Tech, including phlebotomy. Meet with staff individually or as a group to review expectations; provide mentoring and role modelling on performance and skill development; maintain employee files with regular performance notes, competency documentation, attendance records, and other related information. Support total quality improvement philosophy in daily work by demonstrating respect for people and customer satisfaction; actively participate in gathering and collecting data for the lab; serve on the Quality Improvement committee as needed.
