Manager, Claims & Risk Management Oversee and manage complex property and casualty insurance claims and disputes while serving as a direct manager of multiple direct reports within the Insurance & Risk Management Department. Responsibilities Independent claims handling and coordination with direct reports for major coverage lines, including auto, general liability, workers’ compensation, builder’s risk, pollution liability, and professional liability. Review insurance policies, analyze coverage letters, and coordinate responses to ensure appropriate coverage. Analyze construction documents to assess liability and damages. Act as liaison with insurance company claims professionals and internal stakeholders to secure successful claim outcomes. Monitor and evaluate claims activity to ensure accuracy and compliance with laws and regulations. Draft settlement recommendation memorandums within prescribed authority. Manage litigation cases, including interviewing prospective attorneys and vendors, initiating litigation holds and document production, coordinating depositions, and attending conferences and hearings. Conduct quarterly reviews with insurance carriers and complete monthly and bi‑annual claim reporting to leadership. Manage, coach, and develop a high‑performing, inclusive team culture focused on accountability and continuous growth. Provide technical direction on complex, high‑severity, or disputed claims. Review and approve settlement recommendations and reserve changes. Serve as the RMIS technical subject‑matter expert for claims data. Analyze incident and claims data and extract meaningful insights for internal reporting. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency. Assist management with property and casualty claims programs, update account instructions, resolve performance issues, and identify opportunities for improvement. Create standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and assist with departmental goal execution. Train and mentor staff as needed and support risk control and risk reduction strategies. Generate company resources, such as news articles and presentations, on relevant topics. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Economics, Safety, or related fields preferred; additional work experience may substitute for a degree. Minimum of 6–8 years of experience handling property and casualty insurance claims. Experience in the AEC field or commercial real‑estate development highly desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analytics and financial summaries. Knowledge of insurance regulations and industry best practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and lead a team. Previous team‑management experience preferred. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Claims & Risk Management and is based at HITT’s Headquarters in Falls Church, VA, with a 4‑day in‑office schedule.
