Specialist, Career and Tech Education, Health and Medical Sciences

The Specialist provides technical and functional leadership for the Health and Medical Sciences program area, assisting in the expansion, implementation, and maintenance of courses and programs. This role involves coordinating curriculum development with teachers, business and industry representatives, and cross-curricular stakeholders, while collaborating with central office departments on strategic priorities. Responsibilities include designing and delivering professional learning for high school teachers, providing instructional coaching, establishing appropriate learning environments, promoting career and technical student organizations, evaluating workforce development opportunities, and monitoring performance data to support program planning and expansion. The Specialist also prepares information for presentations and stays updated on current trends in Health and Medical Sciences and Career and Technical Education. Essential Responsibilities Specific to this Job Provides technical and functional leadership for assigned program area (e.g., Health and Medical Sciences) to assist the Supervisor for Career and Technical Education in the expansion, implementation, and maintenance of courses and programs. Coordinates curriculum development with teachers, business and industry representatives, and cross-curricular stakeholders; collaborates with other central office departments on strategic priorities to work toward convergence with shared accountability for school and division goals. Evaluate instructional needs to design and deliver high quality professional learning for high school teachers. Provide instructional coaching and support to classroom teachers. Assists in planning and establishing appropriate learning environments, including classroom and lab design, equipment selection, repair, and replacement, and reviewing digital and instructional resources. Promote participation in career and technical student organizations (e.g., HOSA). Identify and evaluate workforce development opportunities, including industry credentials and high quality work-based learning experiences, to enhance instruction and increase post-secondary outcomes. Monitor measurable performance data and student outcomes to support planning, implementation, and expansion of Career and Technical Education programs, as appropriate. Assist with planning and preparing information for internal and external presentations, including but not limited to the advisory council, family engagement series, specialty program events, teachers, administrators, community groups, and the School Board. Stay abreast of current trends in Health and Medical Sciences and Career and Technical Education in the local/regional workforce and at the state and national levels. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors Knowledge of the Virginia Career and Technical Education curriculum frameworks, instructional planning and delivery, career and technical student organizations, industry credentials, and high quality work-based learning. Knowledge of research- and evidence-based best practices related to curriculum development, professional development, and program management. Effective leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work with students, teachers, administrators, families, and community members. Demonstrated expertise in substantive analytical, technical, and organizational skills. Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of three years successful teaching experience in Career and Technical Education is required. State eligibility for Collegiate Professional, Postgraduate Professional, or Technical Professional License; one or more endorsements in an instructional area related to Career and Technical Education. #J-18808-Ljbffr
