Bakery Department Assistant

In this role, you will serve as the face of our Bakery department and assist the Bakery Manager in the day-to-day activities. You will welcome customers and introduce them to our rapidly evolving selection of new and unique baked goods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide excellent customer service by answering product questions and making recommendations.
• Pack, weigh, and label fresh-baked items, ensuring local favorites are always on display and clearly marked.
• Rotate stock daily using First In, First Out method to guarantee freshness.
• Finish product decoration such as fire-torching a crme brulee and applying custom icing to cookies and specialty cakes.
• Assist with preparing and assembling sampler boxes, building promotional displays, and refreshing seasonal items.
• Sanitize counter spaces, wash baking trays and maintain spotless cases to meet health codes.
• Sweeping and mopping floor, and backroom. Overall sanitation for department.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Observe all store rules and company policies.
• Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations.
• Follow safety guidelines when working, especially when lifting, using cutting tools, large machinery, ladders, stretch and take breaks when performing repetitive motions, etc.
• Follow health guidelines to ensure safe product is provided to our customers.
• Knowledge of Weight & Measure Laws.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: :

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

There are no computer skills required for this position.

Certificates and Licenses:

Food Handler Certification.

• Be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents such as ammonia during routine housekeeping duties;
• Have sufficient memory retention skills to memorize weekly ad prices and memo items.
