We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of residential and/or commercial real estate properties. You will own the monthly close for your assigned properties, ensure accurate financial reporting, and partner with property managers, asset managers, and ownership to explain results and support sound decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties
• Record and reconcile journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and deferrals
• Reconcile bank accounts, tenant security deposits, and escrow accounts
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoice coding and approval workflows
• Review and reconcile rent rolls, tenant ledgers, CAM charges, and lease billings
• Prepare budget-to-actual and variance analyses with clear commentary for property managers and asset managers
• Assist with annual budgets and forecasts
• Prepare CAM reconciliations, tax and insurance recoveries, and owner distributions
• Support lender compliance reporting, covenant calculations, and debt service tracking
• Maintain fixed asset and capital expenditure schedules, including depreciation
• Assist with audit and tax preparation by providing supporting schedules and documentation
• Help maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2+ years of accounting experience, ideally in real estate or property management
• Working knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
• Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and deadline management

Preferred

• Experience with property management and accounting software (Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, RealPage, or Sage Intacct)
• Familiarity with CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and multifamily or commercial operations
• CPA or CPA candidate
• Experience with lender reporting and partnership/entity accounting

• Ability to manage multiple properties and priorities during close
• Problem-solving and a proactive, ownership-minded approach
• Comfort working independently in a hybrid environment

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 , depending on experience
