Assistant Project Manager

Role: Assistant Project Manager – Heavy Civil Location: Washington, D.C. (Full-Time / On-Site) Compensation: $150-175k base salary + excellent benefits package Position Overview Fabr Global is pleased to be continuing our close ties with a prominent general contractor in heavy civil infrastructure to secure an Assistant Project Manager for a landmark, multi-billion-dollar mega-project in the Washington, D.C. region. This high-profile development involves highly complex structural, rail, and transit elements that will redefine regional connectivity. The ideal candidate is a high-performing professional with 2 to 5 years of heavy civil or complex structural experience who is ready to step out of a standard support role and take true operational ownership. Working alongside some of the best leaders in the industry, you will manage critical scopes of work, oversee project controls, and be placed on a clear path for future progression. Key Responsibilities Project Operations & Field Management Take direct commercial and operational responsibility for designated complex structural or civil scopes of work, ensuring execution matches engineering specifications. Serve as a primary point of contact for subcontractors, managing scheduling, field performance, and safety compliance. Work closely with Superintendents and field engineering teams to resolve constructability issues, material delays, and structural challenges in real time. Project Controls & Financial Administration Assist in managing the master project schedule, tracking progress milestones, and monitoring cost control systems to mitigate budget variances. Oversee the submittal, RFI (Request for Information), and change order processes, ensuring clear communication between the field, design teams, and the client. Ensure all field operations adhere to stringent corporate QA/QC standards and safety regulations inherent to large-scale public transit builds. Candidate Profile & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline. 2 to 5 years of hands‑on project management or field engineering experience within heavy civil construction (bridges, highways, rail, mass transit, or major marine/structural works). Strong understanding of project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Procore, Viewpoint) and the ability to interpret complex structural blueprints and civil drawings. Core Competencies A proactive communicator who can command authority in the field, negotiate effectively with subcontractors, and maintain high standards under pressure. Analytically sharp with a track record of identifying sequencing conflicts or logistical bottlenecks before they impact the schedule.
