Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition — Providence, RI, USA Location: Providence, RI, USA. Full‑time. Salary range: $140k–$200k, plus bonus and equity. Role Overview Speechify’s mission is to eliminate reading barriers. We need a mid‑level Software Engineer on the Data side of our AI team, responsible for data collection to support model training. The role involves building petabyte‑scale datasets at high quality and low cost through integration of infrastructure, engineering, and research. What You’ll Do Identify and acquire new audio data sources and incorporate them into the ingestion pipeline. Operate and expand the cloud infrastructure (currently on GCP, managed with Terraform) that supports data ingestion. Collaborate closely with data scientists to improve cost, throughput, and quality, delivering richer data at greater scale. Work with the AI team and leadership to define the dataset roadmap powering consumer and enterprise products. Qualifications BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field. 5+ years industry experience in software development. Proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux environments. Experience with Docker, Infrastructure‑as‑Code, and a major cloud provider (GCP). Experience with web crawlers or large‑scale data processing workflows is a plus. Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
