Senior Commercial Underwriter

Under the supervision of the Underwriting Supervisor, the Senior Commercial Underwriter reviews submissions for membership and renewal with the New Jersey Schools Insurance Group for all commercial lines of coverage offered by NJSIG, including workers’ compensation, school leaders errors and omissions, property, commercial general liability, commercial auto liability, crime, equipment breakdown, environmental liability, cyber liability and other ancillary coverage(s). This includes reviewing and recommending whether an applicant be accepted for membership and recommending whether a current member be renewed. A Senior Commercial Underwriter is expected to operate with significantly more autonomy than a Commercial Underwriter. 2.Functions: a.Reviews new business applications, claims data, reports from loss control consultants, and other data to determine if applicant is an acceptable risk and qualifies for membership with NJSIG for a specific line of coverage; b.Performs underwriting reviews on renewing policies by identifying operations and exposures, analyzing loss experience by reference to loss severityandfrequency,reviewing determining risk appropriate pricing; safetycontrolsand aidingin c. Recommends acceptance or refusal of application for membership based on loss history, pricing and program underwriting guidelines; d.Responsible for assuring adequate pricing and coverages for members and recommends changes necessary to promote financial stability for NJSIG based on underwriting policies and procedures; e.Responsible for having a full understanding of all lines of coverage offered by NJSIG including workers’ compensation, school leaders errors and omissions, property, commercial general liability, commercial auto liability, crime, bonds, equipment breakdown, environmental liability, cyber Liability and other ancillary coverage(s) so as to provide accurate and timely technical guidance to members and brokers; f.Reviews and makes recommendations with regard to NJSIG coverage policy language and underwriting guidelines; g.Responsible for having a full understanding of all NJSIG and reinsurer underwriting guidelines; h.Responsible for maintaining appropriate documentation of all underwriting decisions, and accurately inputting all relevant data into NJSIG’s underwriting database software; j.Responsible for processing policy endorsements; k.Responsible for providing assistance to the Accounting Department to resolve billing inquiries; l.Responsible for participating in broker, member and reinsurer communications and meetings; m.Responsible for assisting the Member Services & Loss Control Staff with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of membership in the New Jersey Schools Insurance Group; and, n.Manage special projects. 3.Qualifications: a.Bachelor’s degree in Insurance & Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance or Accounting required; b.Minimum of five years’ experience as a commercial underwriter required, experience as a commercial underwriter for an intergovernmental risk pool is preferred; c.Licensed in the State of New Jersey as a Major Lines Producer (property casualty and surplus lines preferred); d. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Commercial Underwriting or Certified Insurance Counselor designation preferred; e. Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise level, ability able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and the ability to travel to client, carrier, and prospect work sites as required; and, f.Residency in the State of New Jersey in accordance with the New Jersey First Act, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, et seq., unless otherwise exempted. #J-18808-Ljbffr New Jersey Schools Insurance Group
