Technology Fellow: Digital Safety and Security Submit a resume and cover letter by July6th,2026. This is a two‑year Technology Fellow focused on expanding Ford Foundation’s digital safety and security capacity for civil society partners worldwide. About the Opportunity The Fellow will: expand the Foundation’s ability to support grantee digital safety and security; assess strategic gaps in the ecosystem for safety and security providers; identify field‑building opportunities; work directly with program officers across US and global teams to integrate digital security capacity; provide strategic support to high‑risk grantees; partner with the information technology team to align internal and external strategies; and act as a strategic advisor offering technical expertise, identifying emerging opportunities and challenges, and building networks of justice‑driven technology experts. Responsibilities Expand Foundation capacity to support grantees’ organizational digital safety and security practices. Assess strategic gaps in the digital safety and security ecosystem. Identify field‑building opportunities and integrate digital security into Ford’s technical assistance programs. Provide strategic support to high‑risk grantees. Partner with the IT team to align internal and external strategies. Identify emerging opportunities and challenges in the field of digital safety and security. Build and strengthen networks of justice‑driven technology experts. Qualifications Minimum 7 years’ professional experience working with media, technology, advocacy or policy organizations. Baccalaureate degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Strong ability to critically assess digital security technologies for usefulness, effectiveness, security risks, and impact. Sophisticated knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, especially surveillance technologies and organizational digital safety. Experience designing, implementing, or supporting digital safety and security solutions and tools in a complex, global setting. Experience working with civil society, government, and/or private sector stakeholders. Excellent analytical, writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong strategic communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse audiences. Ability to handle confidential issues with discretion. Action‑oriented, disciplined, and self‑motivated with the capacity for self‑reflection and a sense of humor. Willingness to work in NewYorkCity. Preferred Experience in change management and organizational transition. Familiarity with regional contexts and geopolitical landscapes relevant to Ford’s work. Physical Demands This position is primarily sedentary. Occasionally, the Fellow may need to move within the office, access files, and use office equipment. Domestic and international travel of 10–20% of the time is expected to visit grantees and attend conferences and workshops. Salary Minimum $166,000 – maximum $170,000, adjusted for experience and internal equity considerations. Location NewYork office. Hybrid model requiring in‑office presence three days per week. Work Authorization Position is not eligible for employment‑visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment Type Term‑limited two‑year contract.
