Director, Building Services Location: Indianapolis, Indiana, US Job Type: Full Time Requisition ID: 1681 Posting Date: 26 days ago Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $95,000.00 Annually Position Overview Lead regional building services operations, overseeing plan review and inspection services across Indiana and Kentucky. Manage teams, ensure compliance with building codes, fire protection standards, and accessibility requirements, and support municipalities and private clients throughout the permitting process. Key Responsibilities Oversee building plan review and inspection services for new construction, additions, renovations, and occupancy changes. Ensure reviews and inspections comply with adopted statewide building codes and regulations. Review construction documents and prepare technical reports identifying code compliance issues and recommended corrections. Conduct or oversee on-site building inspections to verify compliance. Perform ADA Title II accessibility audits. Provide technical guidance on building codes to architects, engineers, contractors, property owners, and municipal clients. Manage project assignments, track review progress, and coordinate schedules for multiple clients and jurisdictions. Develop and manage contracts, proposals, and budgets for services. Present proposals, contracts, and updates to clients or legislative bodies as required. Maintain accurate records of contracts, reviews, inspections, and documentation. Monitor changes to codes, laws, and regulations, ensuring staff remain informed. Maintain ICC certifications and continuing education. Lead and mentor building services staff, supporting professional development and operational excellence. Qualifications & Experience 5+ years of experience as a plan examiner or building inspector (10+ preferred). Demonstrated knowledge of construction principles, practices, and procedures. Extensive experience interpreting statewide building and fire codes, including structural, fire protection, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, accessibility, flammables, exhaust hood, sprinkler, and alarm systems. Accredited college training in Architecture, Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural or Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Construction Technology (preferred). Minimum 3 years of supervisory/management experience of building inspectors or plan reviewers, with budgeting and operational oversight (preferred). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution abilities. Strong organizational skills managing schedules, priorities, and timelines. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and project‑management systems such as Ajera. Required Certifications B-2 – Commercial Building Inspector (ICC) B-1 – Residential Building Inspector (ICC) Commonwealth of Kentucky Certified Building Inspector ICC Building Plans Examiner National Certification Program for Code Construction Inspectors – Building General, Building Plan Review, Fire Protection General, Fire Protection Plan Review, One‑ and Two‑Family Dwelling General Additional certifications within 2 years: B1 – Residential Building Inspector; M1 – Residential Mechanical Inspector; M3 – Mechanical Plan Examiner. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Must work in varied field conditions, including inclement weather, climbing stairs or ladders, stooping, crawling, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while aware of construction equipment.
