Assistant Director of Nursing ( ADON )

Employment Type: Full time. Shift: Day Shift. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Establish and/or maintain departmental procedures that support the necessary operational functions for the Skilled Nursing Department. Assist in maintaining the department budget, place orders for equipment and supplies as necessary. Determine departmental staffing requirements and assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of personnel for the Community or Department. Monitor department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, etc., to ensure proper workflow and adequate staffing levels in compliance with state minimum regulations and sanctuary budgeted PPD hours. Evaluate, develop, mentor, coach, counsel and discipline department staff. Supports community personnel from other departments through coaching and mentoring to help achieve optimum standard of excellence. Addresses issues of concern through courageous conversation and notifies department manager of any interactions requiring attention. Participate in community surveys and when necessary develop a plan of correction for department deficiencies. Provide oversight for the admission, transfer and discharge of residents as required. Provide support for administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., and activities. Ensure the development of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident. Review resident’s medical and nursing treatments to ensure that they are provided in accordance with the resident’s care plan and wishes. Ensure that all nursing personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions. Meet with the nursing staff, as well as support personnel in planning the department’s services. Monitor that all departmental personnel follow established policies and procedures, including dress code. Attend various committee meetings of the community as required. Assist in preparing written and/or oral reports of the nursing service programs and activities to submit to such committees. Assist the Regional Directors of Learning and Development and Education Directors in developing, implementing, and conducting in‑service training programs that relate to the nursing service department. Ensure the continuing education requirements, which allow licensed personnel to keep their license current. Monitors compliance and accuracy of IDT documentation practices in relation to the care of the resident. Responds to emergency situations, gathers data pertinent to emergencies, takes appropriate action, and notifies appropriate parties. Ensures that all personnel participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills and follows established infection control procedures. Ensure that department work areas are maintained in a clean, sanitary and safe manner. Assist Director of Nursing and participates in the Quality Assurance and Process Improvement in relation to incident reporting to assure complete documentation of occurrences. Analyzes data and develops appropriate action plans, identifies trends, patterns and outcomes. Provides these plans and trends to various committees attended. Ensure adequate stock of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is maintained on premises at all times to adequately meet the needs of the residents. Monitor nursing procedures to ensure that nursing service supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste. Monitor that staff is using equipment properly. Participate in the development and implementation of the procedures for the safe operation of all nursing equipment. Must function independently, make independent decisions, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity and ability to work effectively with residents and personnel. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the community policies and procedures. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, THSC Corporate Integrity Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program. Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing preferred (LPNs actively enrolled in a Registered Nurse program may be considered on an interim basis). Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state. Must possess and maintain current CPR Certification. Must have training and/or experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long‑term care. Previous experience working in long‑term care or with the geriatric population preferred. Must have 1 year experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, long‑term care environment, or other related healthcare facility. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work parameters. Must be able to see, hear and smell or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Primarily works inside with frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, sitting, walking, bending and lifting. Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3½ feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile individuals within the community. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this community, which include a medical and physical examination. May be required to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and other positions temporarily when necessary and may be subject to call back during emergency conditions.
