Job Title: Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (Allied Health Providers)MUST HAVE 6 MONTHS EXPERIENCE IN URGENT CARE OR EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT SETTING.Company: Emergency Medicine Specialists of Orange CountyDepartment: Emergency Departments - St. Joseph Hospital and/or Rady Children's Health (formerly known as CHOC - Children's Hospital or Orange County)Reports To: Director of Advanced Practice Provider Services (Daniel Starr, MD)Job SummaryThe Emergency Medicine Specialists of Orange County (EMSOC), one of the largest independent groups in California, is looking for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) who demonstrate excellence in patient care.EMSOC's Allied Health Providers enjoy a key role in driving improvements in acute care and provide medical services under the supervision of an EMSOC physician in an Emergency Department setting.Working as a member of the healthcare team, and as delegated by their supervising physician, PAs and NPs direct and oversee the management of patient care through the entirety of the patient's Emergency Department visit.Essential FunctionsObtain patient history and perform physical examination.Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients.Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.Issue appropriate prescriptions and administer medication.Prescribe therapy or medication with physician approval.Perform procedures including, but not limited to, laceration repair, foreign body removal, fracture care, splinting, wound and infection care.Documentation of patient visit, including medical history, physical examination, testing, progress notes, treatment, and diagnoses.Monitor for effective treatment and therapy.Instruct, educate, and counsel patients.Respond to medical emergencies including delivery of CPR.Additional ResponsibilitiesCommunicate professionally, effectively, and respectfully with patients, providers, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.Professionally educate and communicate with patients and families as appropriate.Act as patient advocate by maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.Demonstrate professional and accurate medical documentation skills.Demonstrate effective and efficient time management skills.Adhere to practice standards, policies and procedures, and code of ethics.Attend and actively participate in required meetings.Continually monitor and respond to all forms of work-related correspondence including EMSOC email, voicemails, and text messages.Actively seek out continuing medical education opportunities.Continually maintain all required licensure, occupational health, compliance, and credentialing requirements.Provides clinical instruction to health professionals and AHP students rotating through the department.May be involved in research activities performed by the service.Physical RequirementsPhysical DemandsDuring the course of a typical allied health shift, the employee will be:Standing - more than 2/3 of shiftWalking – more than 2/3 of shiftSitting – less than 1/3 of shiftUsing hands and fingers to handle or feel – more than 2/3 of shiftReaching with hands or arms – 1/3 – 2/3 of shiftStooping, bending, squatting – less than 1/3 of shiftSpeaking/hearing – entire shiftLiftingDuring the course of a typical allied health shift, the employee may be required to:Frequently lift up to 10 poundsOccasionally lift up to 25 poundsRarely lift up to 50 poundsVision / HearingVision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing: Must have good hearing.TechnologyMust be able to type on computer keyboards and view computer monitors for extended periods of time.QualificationsEducation - Master's Degree in accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner programLicensure - PA-C or FNPCertifications - Certified via National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for physician assistants, DEA license, ACLS/PALS certification.
