Overview HKS seeks a talented Designer for its Sports team who exercises independent judgment, collaborates on exceptional design and delivery, anticipates expectations, and contributes to project and design solutions. Responsibilities Compile data and perform design computations in collaboration with the project team. Work with senior designers and project teams on conceptual designs, presentations, design development and production to deliver projects on time and within budget. Apply creative design concepts and expand on others' concepts. Participate in project proposals to develop design solutions. Understand industry‑standard construction techniques, building regulations and engineering principles to apply to project plans. Support design effort and client presentations to develop client relationships. Develop, modify and/or review drawings to incorporate the design intent. Produce graphic presentations, 3D renderings and implementation documents. Collaborate on design development throughout relevant project phases. Assist in researching material requirements and costs. Prepare presentation and design drawings; build models for client or project‑team review. Organize and deliver complete project design presentations to client or user groups and public forums. Coordinate with consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives. Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions. Manage client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination. Support the firm’s cultural values of quality, innovation, learning and growth. Mentor by coaching and motivating project team members. Seek leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members and collaborating with team leaders. Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team. Promote design excellence through responsible and sustainable design practice and mindful material evaluation and selection. Understand fundamental accounting principles and the project accounting process. Collaborate in delivering a project on defined budget requirements. Be responsible for the financial implications of overhead and chargeable time, including accountability to the project plan and planned utilization rate. Support business development by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedules. Qualifications Accredited professional degree in Architecture or related field. Architectural registration strongly preferred. Typically 5+ years of experience. Sustainable design accreditation preferred. Proficiency in Revit. Proficiency in architectural 3D modeling software such as Rhino, Grasshopper, 3D Studio MAX and AutoCAD (preferred). Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp and InDesign graphic software preferred. Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred. Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines. Knowledge of furniture, furnishings & equipment (FF&E) and environmental graphic process. Experience with the entire project lifecycle, including post‑occupancy. Strong knowledge of materials, construction techniques and building codes. Strong presentation and visualization skills to communicate design ideas. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new ones. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to solve problems and apply innovative solutions. Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment. Ability to meet deadlines with expected quality. Travel may be required. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary Range: $77-90k – Chicago location only. The range may vary based on location, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
