Position Overview This position is responsible for assuring that all materials and procedures used to produce bituminous mixturesin the district are in accordance with the contract documents. This position is also responsible for operating andmaintaining remote Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) labs, and inspection andcertification on industry labs. Essential Functions Ensures that all materials tested, inspected, and shipped to state projects comply with applicable specifications. Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution of inspection reports and for data entry for materials shipped. Maintains professional relationships with all producers, suppliers, local and county officials, and others involved in the production and use of materials. Provides advice and assistance to producers and suppliers upon request. Performs nuclear density tests on bases, shoulders, and pavements, earthwork, and aggregate base course. Performs and supervises Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) quality assurance testing. Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job-related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience. Completion of HMA and PCC QC/QA Level II Courses. Preferred Qualifications Skill in the use of laboratory testing equipment and engineering field and office instruments. Ability to perform duties independently and with minimal guidance and supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills. Good organization skills.
