Position Summary: We are looking for a Vice President, General Accounting & Bank Ops to lead the operational side of the accounting function, including Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger and cash reconciliations, unclaimed property management, and statutory and premium tax reporting. This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who is strategic, detail-oriented, and skilled at building strong teams and controls in a regulated insurance environment. Come join our “A Team.” Key Responsibilities: Directs and oversees Treasury functions, including banking relationships, cash management, and wire transfer processing Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing Ensures timely and accurate completion of bank reconciliations, cash reconciliations, and general ledger activity reconciliations Oversees unclaimed property management, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with state escheatment requirements Directs the preparation and filing of premium tax filings and other state regulatory filings Oversees preparation of the statutory Schedule T and supports statutory financial reporting requirements Owns the department budget process, including preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis Oversees coordination of enterprise expense budget, working closely with cost managers to forecast expenses and capital spend Oversees enterprise general and administrative expense reporting, accruals, and variance analysis on both a Statutory and GAAP reporting basis Assists with enterprise project work that overlaps with duties, including but not limited to bank setup and testing, product accounting and reporting development and testing, and administration system interface testing Establishes and maintains strong internal controls over accounting operations, banking, and disbursement processes Builds, develops, and manages a team of accounting professionals; sets goals, coaches performance, and supports professional growth Partners with Treasury, Tax, Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, and external auditors/regulators on reviews, exams, and audit requests Identifies and leads process improvement and automation initiatives across accounting operations Evaluates and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company guidelines and applicable regulations Provides accurate, timely reporting and analysis to senior leadership on accounting operations, cash position, and key risks Performs other duties as assigned Scope of the Role: This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for the strategic direction, controls, and performance of the accounting operations function. The Vice President exercises independent judgment on complex and non-routine matters, sets department priorities and policy, manages a team of accounting professionals, and represents the function in interactions with senior leadership, external auditors, and regulators. Experience & Skills Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required; CPA preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience) 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 5+ years in a leadership or management role; insurance industry experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of Treasury operations, banking relationships, and cash management practices Solid understanding of insurance statutory accounting and regulatory reporting requirements Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to build, develop, and motivate a team Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of driving process improvement Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across the department Strong internal controls mindset and experience with audit and regulatory examination processes Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with executive leadership and external parties Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive financial information Works independently, demonstrating initiative and strong decision-making ability Occasionally works more than 40 hours a week Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test CPA license Prior experience within the insurance industry, particularly with statutory accounting and reporting Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and general ledger/ERP systems Experience with unclaimed property and premium tax compliance software or processes Leadership Building Talent · Driving for Results · Leading Change · Strategic Decision Making · Establishing Strategic Direction Business Results Customer Focus · Financial Acumen · Managing Work Interpersonal Effectiveness Building Strategic Working Relationships · Building Trust · Communication · Influencing Competitive salary and benefits, including 401(k), health insurance, and performance-based bonuses.
