The Fremont Sanitation District (FSD) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Field Tech I in the Collections Department. The Field Tech I-Collections is an entry-level position within the Field Tech – Collections series. This position will work under the general supervision of the Field Superintendent to perform maintenance and routine cleaning operations on the wastewater collection system. These tasks are performed daily using a Vac-Con combination sewer cleaner truck, jetter truck, and other various support trucks and equipment. This position will regularly work 10-hour days Monday through Thursday with rotating on-call duty between shifts and on weekends and holidays. May also be required to work during emergency situations. Education/Experience Requirements: Minimum of High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum of one (1) year experience in construction or maintenance. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Current valid Colorado Class “B” CDL or obtain within (6) months of hire. Class I Wastewater Collection Certification from the CCWP within (1) year of hire. Trench Safety Certification or obtain within (3) months of hire. Certification for Confined Spaces or obtain within (3) months of hire. Employment Requirements: Upon offer of employment, will be subject to a pre-employment background check, including employment references, criminal history, and driving record review. CDL Required positions shall be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol testing program that fulfills the requirements of Code of Federal Regulations Title 49, Part 382 for Commercial Driver’s License holders upon offer of employment. Employee will be required to successfully pass (100%) a safety-related test conducted by the District within (3) months of employment. Employee will be required to successfully pass (100%) a construction certification test within (30) days of hire. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The listed duties are essential job functions that the position has been created to perform. The list of duties is not exhaustive, and employee may be called upon to perform other duties and special assignments which may be outside of the primary areas of employment. Performs wastewater collection system maintenance and cleaning utilizing equipment, materials, and tools required to complete related tasks. Drives and operates controls on a combination Vac-Con or jetter truck to clean sewer lines. Performs and assists in the tapping of sewer main for residential/commercial connection. Assists in guiding a small television camera through sewer lines to diagnose problems and determine what types of equipment or repairs will be needed. Maintains vehicle safety records as required. Operates sewer maintenance, inspection, and cleaning machine and tools, including but not limited to hydraulic sewer cleaning machines, various types of pumps, air compressor & pneumatic tools, electric generators, electronic locating devices, ventilators, traffic control devices, and hand tools. Provides clear and timely reports about conditions of the wastewater collection system that require corrective action. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations, recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries. Assists collections and construction crews when needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of wastewater collection systems. Able to work in all types of terrain (grass, gravel, ditches, etc.), all types of environments (construction sites, highways, industrial, private property, prison complexes, etc.), and all types of weather conditions. Ability to concentrate on detail despite interruptions or other distractions. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise oral and written form. Accurately use basic arithmetic to correctly calculate volume, quantities, and do similar calculations. Ability to read and correctly interpret sewer system maps. Must have good working knowledge of, and proficient skill to operate, all equipment used for the cleaning and maintenance of wastewater collections systems, including but not limited to the following: Hydraulic sewer cleaning machines, various types of pumps, air compressor & pneumatic tools, electric generators, electronic locating devices, ventilators, traffic control devices, single axle and tandem axle trucks, and hand tools. Ability to use computer hardware/software. Thorough understanding of, and ability to follow District Rules and Regulations, personnel policies, and safety policies/procedures. Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions. Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with industry officials, customers, co-workers, and those that conduct business with the District.

WORKPLACE CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors. Outside tasks are required in all-weather conditions, often in close contact with wastewater. Strong odors are frequently present at worksites. Working in confined and close spaces is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed in potentially hazardous environments such as electrical, infectious, and mechanical hazards.

Must have the physical strength and dexterity to operate various power tools. Must have the physical strength and dexterity to shovel gravel, dirt, sand, and asphalt, etc. up to 5 hours per day. Must be able to enter and exit equipment as often as 20 times per day. Employee may be required to report during non-scheduled hours.

WORK STATUS

This is a full-time position with a 40 hour per week schedule. Hours are normally 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday with rotating on-call duty between shifts, and on weekends and holidays.
