Overview Patient Service Associate-Duke Primary Care-Heritage Join to apply for the Patient Service Associate-Duke Primary Care-Heritage role at Duke University Health System . Location: Heritage (Duke Primary Care). This role supports clinic operations, patient check-in/out, scheduling, billing interactions, and patient communications. Responsibilities Coordinate and participate in daily clinic preparation processes, patient identification, patient check-in/out, charge posting, cash management, and patient appointment scheduling. Provide customer service, distribute messages, assist with ancillary scheduling and referrals management. Prepare for clinic visits by reviewing next-day patients, entering pre-visit orders, and preparing new patient charts. Handle patient records: pick up, file, return, attach HIPAA/Medicare documents, and ensure correct chart documentation. Check-in patients, verify demographic data in Maestro Care, and manage appropriate alerts. Collect and post co-payments and balances; manage cash handling according to policy. Explain billing to patients according to PRMO credit and collection policies; determine cash amounts based on insurance plans. Coordinate labs/procedures, prepare encounter forms, and schedule tests and procedures. Check-out patients and schedule return appointments with correct appointment type and physician assignments. Answer telephone calls and distribute messages to physicians, nurses, and staff; relay information accurately and timely. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong verbal and written communication. Basic PC and data entry skills; knowledge of medical terminology and telephone etiquette. Ability to organize and prioritize work, provide clear instructions, and maintain professional relationships with patients and staff. Ability to apply departmental policies related to verifying patient information, collecting payments, and maintaining records.
