Database Administrator

We are seeking a versatile Database Administrator to join the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) in Richmond, VA. Serving as an Assistant Agency DBA, this role is responsible for providing core database administration, managing Microsoft SQL Server environments, maintaining SSRS reports, executing T-SQL programming, and offering full application and server support across agency project teams. Client: Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) Location: Richmond, VA 23219 Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Onsite schedule defined by agency) Role Type: Contract (12 Months) Interview Process: Either In-Person or Remote (Webcam) Compliance Requirement: Must physically reside within the US for the duration of the engagement (offshore work is strictly prohibited). Key Responsibilities SQL Server Administration & Support: Manage Microsoft SQL Server instances, execute administrative maintenance, optimize query performance, and ensure database availability and security. T-SQL & Reporting: Program complex T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, and triggers; design, deploy, and support enterprise reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Application & Code Maintenance: Maintain, debug, and upgrade existing database applications and legacy code written by internal developers. Server & System Administration: Assist IT project managers with server maintenance, system configuration, performance monitoring, and security patching. End-User & Project Support: Provide technical troubleshooting, investigate operational issues, translate requirements into database schemas, and interface with external agencies. Required Skills & Qualifications Database Administration: Progressively responsible experience with Microsoft SQL Server management, configuration, and maintenance. SSRS & T-SQL: Hands-on expertise in developing SSRS reports and writing/optimizing T-SQL queries and procedures. Code Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Proven capability to review, update, and maintain source code developed by third parties or legacy teams. End-User Support: Experience delivering technical support, resolving database/application incidents, and troubleshooting user issues. Communication & Collaboration: Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently or within cross-functional project teams. Preferred Qualifications Development Stack: Experience building and supporting applications with .NET (4.8 ), ASP.NET (C# / VB.NET), HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and AJAX/JSON. Microsoft Power Platform & SharePoint: Experience creating Power Apps, working with DAX queries, and managing SharePoint integrations. Public Sector / VITA Experience: Prior experience with Commonwealth of Virginia IT standards, VITA policies, or public sector transport agencies. #J-18808-Ljbffr
