Open Until Filled General Description The Office of State Lands and Investments, Wyoming State Forestry Division seeks a Wildland Fire Trainer in Pinedale or Kemmerer, Wyoming. The Fire Operations Specialist works under the direction of the Regional Fire Manager, designing, delivering, and evaluating complex training. Responsibilities include preparing training plans, curriculum, lesson plans, scripts, handouts, course material, and audio–visual assets. The role may involve budget input and planning for fire prevention, public education, risk mitigation, suppression, investigation, and trespass operations. Review and evaluate commercial training resources for suitability. Prepare, explain, update, and revise course lesson plans. Create brochures, transparencies, and other audio/visual aids for training. Schedule classes, review curricula, and analyze training results. Write training announcements and program summaries. Create and implement learning objectives and testing processes. Maintain education files and required reports. Assist with other Fire Management Team duties, including suppression and dispatch. Cooperate with federal, state, county, fire district, and municipal agencies in statewide fire prevention and suppression efforts. Preferences Experience with Incident Qualification System (IQS) or similar databases. Knowledge of National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) regulations for wildland firefighter qualifications and approved courses. Knowledge of Wyoming State regulations for wildland firefighter qualifications and approved courses. Strong time management, detail orientation, and organizational skills. Knowledge of fire operations, Incident Command Systems, aviation operations, and dispatch operations. Knowledge Training needs assessment, instructional design, and distributive learning methodology. Work‑system policies and procedures. Methods and materials to achieve training objectives. Distance learning, multimedia instructional methods, and curriculum development. Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree (typically Forestry, Education, or Fire Science). Experience: 0‑2 years of progressive work experience in Education or Instruction, or 3‑5 years with knowledge equivalent to Instructor I. Certificates: Valid state driver’s license. Physical Working Conditions Perform arduous physical activity for extended periods and maintain required NWCG 310‑1 physical fitness certification. Notes FLSA: Non‑Exempt. Must achieve and maintain NWCG310‑1 certification for a minimum of Single Resource Boss. Participates in the State Firefighter (FF) Pension Plan within the Wyoming Retirement System. Qualifies for Hazard Pay when assigned to uncontrolled wildfires and paid time off after 14 consecutive days on wildland fire assignments.
