The Retail Cook plays a key role in creating an exceptional dining experience for patients, visitors, families, and staff within the hospital retail environment. This highly visible, guest-facing position combines culinary expertise with outstanding customer service, preparing fresh, high-quality food while engaging directly with guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.

A genuine smile, positive attitude, and passion for hospitality are essential, as the Retail Cook is often preparing meals in front of guests, answering questions, accommodating requests, and helping guests feel welcomed and cared for. This position may be filled as either a full-time or flex full-time role. Team members must be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays, to support the needs of a 24/7 healthcare environment. Full-time opportunities may be available on overnight, evening, or rotating shifts, depending on departmental needs. The ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable, and committed to providing exceptional service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities include producing high quality hot food products according to standardized recipes and production sheet volume requirements, preparing all foods within designated timeframes, providing a courteous and helpful customer service attitude on a daily basis, completing in-advance preparation requirement for next day of service, adhering to departmental safe food handling procedures at all times, maintaining an inspection-ready, publicly visible work area on a consistent basis, chilling, storing, and recording all prepared and leftover food in accordance to health department guidelines, adhering to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information related to the proper and safe use of chemicals in the workplace, using and maintaining equipment according to manufacturer and department guidelines, expediting and delivering food to wait staff to service customers, when applicable, providing guidance and leadership to culinary and other staff members, completing a.m. daily hot and cold prep list to ensure station is adequately stocked for service, maintaining an expert level of the timing of food orders and ensuring that each item is properly prepared, and performing in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

Qualifications include a work permit required if under 18 years old and Act 34 licensure, certifications, and clearances.
