Animal Care Technician - Kennel

Who We Are
At the Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA), we believe every animal deserves compassionate care, comfort, and the opportunity to find a loving home. For more than 60 years, we’ve been serving the Hampton Roads community through animal sheltering and adoptions, affordable veterinary care, and humane education. Our mission is simple but meaningful: to eliminate animal suffering while increasing human compassion. Every member of our team plays an important role in bringing that mission to life.

Why You’ll Enjoy Working With Us
Make a Meaningful Impact
When you join the VBSPCA, you’re becoming part of a team that believes compassionate care can change lives — for animals and for the people who love them. Every day brings an opportunity to make a difference.

Be Part of a Collaborative Team
You’ll work alongside a team of dedicated animal welfare professionals who share your passion for animals and their well-being. We believe in supporting one another, sharing knowledge, and creating an environment where everyone can contribute and grow.

What You’ll Do
As an Animal Care Technician, you'll play an essential role in creating a safe, clean, healthy, and enriching environment for the dogs in our care. Working alongside our Kennel team, you'll help ensure every dog receives compassionate attention and the opportunity to thrive while waiting for their next chapter.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Providing daily animal care
• Maintaining a clean and safe environment
• Supporting enrichment and socialization activities
• Observing and communicating changes in behavior and health
• Helping our canines find their next home

Every task matters. From preparing a meal to helping a new dog feel safe, your work will make a real difference.

What We’re Looking For
We're looking for someone who is passionate about animal welfare, takes pride in their work, and understands that excellent animal care requires both compassion and consistency.

• Have a genuine love and respect for animals.
• Are dependable, organized, and attentive to detail.
• Enjoys staying active and working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
• Are comfortable balancing animal care responsibilities with excellent customer service.
• Communicate effectively and work well with a team.
• Can approach animals and people with patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
• Are willing to learn, follow established procedures, and contribute to a safe and humane environment.

Animal Welfare experience is valuable, but a compassionate attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are essential to success.

We believe in taking care of our team, too! Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• Paid Time Off
• Eight paid holidays
• Veterinary care discounts for your furry family members
• Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for additional support
