Commercial Banking Area President / Commercial Lender & Relationship Manager (Business Development Officer) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Represents the bank throughout the region in alignment with the client’s aspiration to be the financial institution of choice and recognized as a top business leader across all markets. Guides sales and business development efforts in the region, focusing on loan growth, deposit growth, non‑interest income growth, and cross‑functional referral activity to support all business objectives. Accounts for overall profitability of all markets within the region, including pricing disciplines, net interest margin management, optimization of non‑interest income, and operating efficiency within defined company targets. Maintains overall asset quality for the region, holding Commercial Lending Officers accountable for safety & soundness within defined risk parameters and credit culture expectations. Represents the bank’s culture of responsibility throughout the region, emphasizing communication, employee recognition, engagement, teamwork, consistent performance management, and ongoing professional growth of associates. Meets or exceeds annual goals aligned with the strategic plan and key financial metrics such as ROE and ROA. Retains key senior team members, minimizing unwanted turnover. Manages direct reports, including Lending Officers and other staff, ensuring accountability for performance, staffing, salary administration, and adherence to HR guidelines. Embodies exceptional customer experience standards defined in the bank’s long‑range strategic plan and owns customer experience recovery for service complaints within the region. Familiar with the most profitable customer relationships in each defined market and supports bankers in business development and customer retention activities. Leads engagement of Local Advisory Boards of Directors, may serve as chair, and works with employees to align board member performance with community engagement and business referral goals. Participates in strategic planning activities and takes ownership of strategic execution priorities as assigned. Leads by example in alignment with the company’s Servant Leadership philosophy. Ensures internal and external customers receive outstanding service. Adheres to compliance with laws concerning financial institutions. Keeps current on trends and business conditions in banking and market areas, staying informed on legal, regulatory, economic, competitive, and technology changes that may impact operations and supports adaptability to change. May perform other duties as required by business needs and complete special assignments as directed by the President or CEO. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business‑related area or equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA or related graduate‑level education desirable; completion of graduate‑level banking school preferred. Minimum five years of banking experience in a role with proven management and leadership skills, including leadership in commercial banking, retail banking, mortgage, wealth management, and marketing. Proven ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Boards, Presidents, CEOs, managers, employees, and clients. Demonstrated ability to provide work direction, communicate expectations, and manage performance of others. Capacity to direct business development activities for a defined region, drawing on personal expertise in sales. Constructive and effective interaction with all constituencies. Established ability to develop, communicate, and implement strategic initiatives within a market, ensuring organizational, regional, and market‑level objectives are met.
