Sterile Processing TechnicianDuties:- The position is responsible for assembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and/or storing procedure trays, surgical trays and equipment.- Also assembles, distributes and/or delivers disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts and supplies to fill the needs of the Operating Room, Nursing Units, Ancillary Departments and SCL Clinics.- Operates and monitors sterilization equipment.- Disassembles carts and follows Universal Precautions for decontamination.- Sterilizes, disinfects durable medical equipment and instruments, packages clean supplies and instruments, maintains records for all instruments and transports sterilized items to the floor.- Assembles sterilized instruments and rechecks all instruments for cleanliness and/or impairment. Properly checks power equipment.- Takes measures to allow for easy instrument tracking including following labeling processes, use of engraver, reporting and documenting all missing instruments and implants replaced in trays.- Communicates the equipment and instrument inventory status with the Central Processing staff and Surgery Charge Nurse including order status, back orders and/or changes.- Responds to emergency situations by insuring all emergency, trauma and add-on cases are supplied properly and delivered to the Operating Room in a timely manner.- Utilizes applications and technology to accurately facilitate record keeping in accordance with State and Federal regulations.- Provides on the job training to newly hired associates in the department.- Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.- Performs other duties as assigned.- May be required to work overtime based on business need.- May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.- May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.Skills:- Required Skills & Experience:- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to work nights and/or weekends.Preferred Skills & Experience:- Previous experience in hospital or clinic operating room.
