Commercial Door and Hardware Installer Maintenance Assistant

The job of Maintenance Assistant was established for the purpose of maintaining facilities for students, staff, and public in a safe operating condition; performing preventive maintenance; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.

Assists in the demolition of (e.g. equipment, facilities, and structures) for the purpose of ensuring safety and/or preparing for new construction.

Assists journey-level craftsmen (e.g. carpenters, electricians, painters, etc.) for the purpose of supporting them in the completion or their work activities.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. (Example. Tech, signage panels, TV brackets, whiteboard removal and installation.)

Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operates snow blower and/or snowplow) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.

Assist in installing, servicing and retrofitting commercial steel door frames, hollow metal door/s and all hardware I.E. closures, Hinges, Entry Hardware.

Assist in field work including, conducting onsite assessments, measuring, modifying steel frames, fabricating parts as needed.

Builds items (e.g. walls, temporary partitions, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.

Diagnoses malfunctions of security systems for the purpose of identifying repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain systems.

Estimates repair or construction requirements for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials and equipment as needed.

Assist in installation of security systems (e.g. door and window locks, combination locks, cabinet and desk locks and hardware; panic hardware; etc.) for the purpose of providing security of facilities, equipment and supplies.

Assist in installation of system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.

Duplicates keys for the purpose of ensuring that locks and hardware installed meet fire, building, ADA and other code requirements.

Maintains work areas, tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring a safe working environment and/or the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.

Coordinates projects with district personnel, other trades, and/or outside contractors (e.g. equipment and/or material needs, maintenance of equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials/equipment and/or completing projects and work orders efficiently.

Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment, doors, locks and fixtures, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in good working condition.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.

Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.

Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Will work on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.

Must have a current drivers license.

Must be able to operate equipment used in trade including general hand and power tools, saws, threaders, manlift, forklift, etc.

Must have knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.

Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.

Experience: 3-4 years previous experience preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
