Overview Clinical Supervisor - CVICU – Phoenix Children’s Hospital Department: PCH-MAIN | CA 5 Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun, (Days Vary), Nights, 7am-7pm Category: Nursing Posting #: 1022070 Employee Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Nursing Services Supervisor coordinates shift operational flow in conjunction with organizational and departmental strategic goals, objectives, and standards and is the hospital’s clinical representative/resource for patients, families, and the healthcare team, at both the unit and organization levels. This position provides clinical leadership of patient care services and directs supervision of nursing and support staff to ensure consistent provision of developmentally appropriate quality patient care in accordance with all applicable federal, regulatory, professional standards and requirements. Provides clinical leadership with accountability in promoting quality patient care and an engaging work environment, during assigned shift. Responsibilities Coordinate and lead daily clinical operational activities of the unit and organization to deliver quality family-centered care in an efficient work environment. Manage patient throughput by overseeing admissions, discharges, transfers, and daily rounding on patients and families. Oversee staffing processes by coordinating assignments to match patient needs with staff competencies and skill mix through ongoing assessment. Ensure the unit environment has necessary supplies, equipment, information, and resources to provide safe, high-quality care. Staff, schedule, and appropriately utilize nursing and support staff. Document scheduling changes, occurrence reports, patient/family concerns, and quality indicators in real time to maximize issue resolution by the end of the shift. Provide a report to the oncoming supervisor including status of throughput, staffing, unit environment, schedules, concerns, and quality indicators. Collaborate with management to foster an environment that supports staff and promotes engagement through clinical/administrative leadership. Promote clinical leadership by serving as a clinical and systems expert in developing, implementing, and evaluating age-specific, patient/family-centered plans of care. Promote a culture of learning, staff development, and retention. Align department/organization outcomes with metrics and lead performance improvement projects to enhance patient care delivery and satisfaction. Ensure timely investigation of occurrence reports and identify patient safety risks with proactive risk reduction strategies. Own operational functions including patient safety, timely resolution of complaints, quality improvement initiatives, survey preparation, and patient/family satisfaction follow-up. Make decisions that support financial stewardship and collaborate to meet department/organization financial goals. Serve as daily operational resource to staff and manage supplies and equipment. Adhere to department/organization policies, procedures, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with leadership to develop, review, revise, and implement evidence-based policies to ensure consistency and compliance with hospital standards and accrediting bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA). Mentor staff to operationalize the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics in daily practice, teaching, and work environment. Protect a work environment emphasizing safe, effective communication among staff, patients, and families. Develop leadership skills among staff, including critical thinking, problem solving, engagement, and career advancement. May participate in the hiring process and unit/organization integration. Monitor staff performance with coaching, recognition, counseling, and appropriate disciplinary action using just culture concepts. Collaborate with other departments and healthcare professionals to maintain effective communication and coordinate services for optimal outcomes. Demonstrate leadership decisions aligned with organizational standards and Shared Governance. Use the chain of command to communicate real-time patient care, staff, family, and visitor concerns and outcomes. Perform miscellaneous duties as requested. Qualifications Education Associate's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Required Yes No Bachelor's Degree or higher in a healthcare-related field. Experience Two (2) years of nursing experience or demonstrated competence in bedside nursing role. Required Yes No One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience. Preferred Yes No Experience with pediatric patient populations. Additional Requirements Current Arizona RN license or RN Compact license with multistate privileges, in compliance with the Arizona State Board of Nursing licensure requirements. Required Yes No Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) prior to start date. Required Yes No Current PEARS, PALS, or NRP certification (AHA) or must be obtained within 9 months of hire. Required Yes No Current and valid nursing certification in clinical nursing expertise or must obtain within one year of eligibility.
