JOB GOAL:

Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors monitor individual student progress, encourage high academic performance, provide long term career and academic planning through the use of Education and Career Action Plans (ECAPs), provide preventive support, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school advisory program that addresses academic and career development for all students.


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Arizona School Counselor Certification required. Applicants must have on file in the Human Resources Department a copy of the appropriate valid certificate or evidence of eligibility to be appropriately certified by the Arizona Department of Education.
2. Master's Degree in School Guidance and Counseling.
3. Adherence to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards for school counselors.
4. Adherence to the College Board National Office for School Counseling Advocacy Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling.
5. Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents and district personnel at all levels.
6. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students.
7. Ability to work with diverse populations.
8. Thorough understanding of academic requirements that lead to high school graduation.
9. Knowledge of college and career readiness strategies and programs as well as post-secondary options
10. Use data to inform practice, balance time spent with students, and work system-wide to develop a college and career-ready culture
11. Use technology in the educational setting
12. Willingness to adapt to change.
13. Must pass a background clearance.
14. Must obtain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Classroom teaching experience or demonstration of effective instructional practices.
2. Prior experience as a school counselor.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 212 Days; 11 Months

COMPENSATION: Per QCUSD salary schedule for applicable position

BENEFITS: As per QCUSD District policy

REPORTS TO: Principal

HOURS: 40 hours per week and may require longer hours - Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

1. Support the Strategic Plan of Queen Creek Unified School District.
2. Participate in registration and scheduling processes for developing student class schedules.
3. Assist all students through meaningful 1:1 meetings, with developing academic and career goals /plans through the development of individual ECAP (Education & Career Action Planning) planning to aid students in the course and subject selection.
4. Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data.
5. Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with meeting all graduation requirements, and referring where necessary, to remediation opportunities.
6. Maintain accountability within a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs,including collaboration with the administration and faculty members Serve as asystems change agent within a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model:A Framework for School Counseling Programs, including the development of evidence-based programming to address the priority college and career readiness needs of the school.
7. Spend 80% or more of documented time on direct and indirect services to students. Direct services to students typically include instruction of core curriculum, group activities promoting academic development, individual student college and career planning, and crisis response support. Indirect services to students typically include consultation with parents,teachers, educators, and community organizations; collaboration with educators, parents, and the community in regards to student achievement; and referrals for students and families to school or community resources.
8. Spend 20% or less of documented time on program planning and support.
9. Support 504 referral, evaluation, and accommodation processes for students in one's caseload.
10. Support Special Education team on a case by case basis when needed, including attendance at relevant IEP meetings.
11. Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified academic concerns and needs.
12. Accurately and appropriately uses academic assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group advisory services.
13. Support the development of students' interpersonal relationships, decision making, goal setting, and understanding of safety and survival skills
14. Support in crisis intervention to individuals/family/school
15. Assist with various testing programs and services (Advanced Placement, PSAT, AzMERIT, ASVAB, etc.)
16. Attend and participate in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school-related activities and committees
17. Conduct a yearly program audit (Action Plan and Quarterly Benchmarks) to review the extent of program implementation .
18. Performs other job-related duties as assigned to advance district priorities
