The position at a glance:

• Appointment: Full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month contract, renewable based on performance.

• Start date: January 1, 2027.

• Location: Fremont, California.

• Teaching load: Nine courses per academic year, distributed across the Spring, Summer, and Fall terms according to program needs. The split need not be even.

• Class size: Capped at 20 students

• Salary $95,000 to $115,000, depending on experience.

• Review begins: September 15, 2026, and continues until the position is filled.

Who we are looking for:

We built this role for people who can work credibly across both technology and business: engineers who moved into product or strategy, founders who built and ran companies, business leaders who developed real technical depth. The teaching runs in both directions. Technology students need to see how systems become products and companies. Business students need to understand the technologies now sitting underneath the decisions they will be asked to make.

Part of the job is working out what AI does to teaching. You would design, test, and revise, course by course, deciding where it deepens understanding, where it expands what students can attempt, and where it should stay out of the way so that judgment, relationships, struggle, and reflection can develop. You would not be doing this alone. CEPI, our Center for Empowerment and Pedagogical Innovation, is where faculty compare what they are finding.

The courses you teach will depend on your background and the needs of the two divisions. Areas may include business analytics, data science, AI and machine learning, product management, technology strategy, data visualization, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.

What the work involves:

Teaching

• Teach nine courses per academic year across the Spring, Summer, and Fall terms, drawing from the Business and ECE curricula at undergraduate and graduate levels.

• Build your courses around professional problems: real projects, cases, decisions with consequences, and current tools.

• Give students room to make judgment calls, weigh evidence, build things, and defend their reasoning.

• Help students see where technical choices meet markets, organizations, customers, ethics, and public needs.

Curriculum design and Pedagogical Growth

• Develop curriculum aligned with current industry trends, including integrating emerging technologies such as generative AI.

• Design and revise course materials, teaching methods, and assessments, in line with SFBU's commitment to personalized, experiential, relational, and student-centered learning.

• Deliver course content in AI/ML, Networking, Cybersecurity, and foundational Computer Science areas.

• Make deliberate choices about where AI belongs in a course and where it does not.

• Take part in CEPI workshops and learning communities, and carry what you find there

• Work with colleagues in Business and ECE on courses, projects, and student experiences that sit between the two divisions.

Students and the university

• Advise and mentor students on academic and career decisions, particularly those aiming at roles that cross disciplinary lines.

• Contribute to curriculum review, program assessment, and accreditation.

• Serve on academic and institutional committees.

• Stay current in your field and in your teaching practice.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Business, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field with expertise and experience in Business Analytics, Data Science, Data Analytics, and Dashboard Visualization.

• 5 years of substantial professional experience spanning both technology and business, regardless of the career path that led there.

• The ability to explain technical work to business audiences and business constraints to technical ones.

• Evidence that you can teach, mentor, or train well, whether in a classroom or a workplace.

• Commitment to inclusive, student-centered, experiential, and relationship-driven education.

• Willingness to experiment with how AI is changing what and how we teach, and to share what you learn from it with colleagues.

• Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in business analytics and data visualization.

• Experience teaching in diverse, student-centered environments.

• Experience designing project-based or interdisciplinary courses.

• A record of mentoring students, founders, or early-career professionals.
