Intern, Accounting | Lansing Board of Water & Light The Tone: This is a full-time summer internship at Lansing Board of Water & Light, located in Lansing, MI. The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is a publicly-owned utility that provides essential electricity, water, and steam services to Lansing, Michigan, and its surrounding areas. This role is crucial for supporting accounting enhancement projects and equipping the company’s business units with the necessary tools and knowledge for consistent and effective decision-making, contributing to the delivery of vital community services. The TL;DR Role: Internship Type: Full-Time Summer Internship Location: In-person Lansing, MI Pay: $23 hourly Team: General Accounting Department, supervised by a mentor. Mission: Support accounting enhancement projects and business units with analytical tools and knowledge for consistent decision-making. Tech Stack: SAP, standard office software (spreadsheet, word-processing, database) What You’ll Actually Do Capital Project Assistance: Support the General Accounting Department by assisting with the full lifecycle of capital projects, including their creation, ongoing maintenance, and ultimate closure within the system. Asset Review & Tracking: Conduct thorough reviews of capital assets and diligently track all associated in-service activities to ensure accurate records. SAP System Navigation: Efficiently navigate the SAP system to generate required reports, accurately record diverse accounting transactions, and conduct detailed research into ledger history. Accounting Project Execution: Execute assigned accounting projects, which may encompass tasks such as performing detailed account reconciliations, identifying and collecting necessary support for audit requests, and conducting various miscellaneous research. Software Application: Proactively utilize standard office software, including spreadsheet, word-processing, and database programs, alongside SAP, to complete daily responsibilities and analysis. The Must-Haves Background: Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution, focusing on Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Experience: Must hold junior or senior status during the summer of 2027 and be actively enrolled in fall classes for 2027. Skills: Demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.0 and possess the ability to effectively utilize standard office software, including spreadsheets, word-processing, and database applications.
