Manager, Wholesale Origination

The Wholesale Originator within the NRG Business team will originate, structure, and negotiate electric commodity transactions to support both Commercial Operations and C&I Sales. The role focuses on East wholesale power markets (PJM, ISONE, NYISO, MISO) with occasional involvement in other markets such as ERCOT. The individual will act as a subject‑matter expert on power and emissions market fundamentals, build relationships with counterparties, and collaborate with internal groups to manage approvals and close transactions. Responsibilities Originate, structure, and negotiate power transactions that support Commercial Operations and the C&I Sales Team. Collaborate with Trading, Legal, Risk, Structuring, Pricing, and Sales teams to manage all deal‑related issues and facilitate approvals. Explain market fundamentals and dynamics to diverse audiences, including assisting C&I Sales teams with wholesale subject‑matter expertise and RFP responses. Sponsor the strategic rationale and economic case for structured transactions, coordinating with various groups to develop management‑level deal summaries. Co‑develop and support strategy for the NRG portfolio in coordination with Business, Commercial Operations, and other key departments. Minimum Requirements Minimum 5 years of origination, power marketing, or power trading experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Deep understanding of contracting mechanisms for wholesale (e.g., ISDA, EEI, REC Master Agreements, PPAs) and retail customer agreements. Advanced knowledge of electric utility industry, power markets, and emissions landscape changes. Ability to leverage an existing network and build new relationships through industry conferences and organizations. Capability to navigate large organizations and oversee back‑to‑back structures with the Retail Sales team. Knowledge of hedging, congestion, demand management, demand response/VPP, options, basis risk, and other power marketing concepts. Familiarity with sustainability frameworks relevant to retail customers. Strong commercial skills to identify and close large wholesale power transactions. Working Conditions Evening and weekend work may be required as business needs dictate. Up to 25% travel to establish and maintain customer relationships. Additional Skills and Abilities Strong communication skills; ability to work with customers and colleagues at all organizational levels. Team player capable of taking initiative and working independently. Flexibility to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Creative thinker with analytical and investigative skills. Location Princeton, Houston, or Pittsburgh preferred; remote approval available. Hybrid working schedule (4 days on site, 1 day remote). Compensation and Benefits Base salary range: \$144,000 – \$237,600 (varies by location, experience, and performance). Potential for annual bonus, short‑term and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards. Eligible for benefits program, including medical, vision, dental, 401(k), and flexible spending accounts.
