Job Description

The Cutter Grinder sets up and operates a variety of grinding equipment to perform precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, and grinding of cutting tools such as drills, reamers, end mills, slab mills, and slotting cutters in high-speed steel and solid carbide. This role creates or modifies cutting tools from blueprints or written instructions, modifies tool holders and boring bars, and ensures all tooling meets exact specifications through careful inspection and measurement.

• Set up and operate grinding and CNC equipment to recondition and modify cutting tools
• Grind and inspect tools (drills, end mills, reamers) to meet specifications and tolerances
• Read blueprints and adjust machine settings, speeds, and feeds as needed
• Monitor operations, troubleshoot issues, and perform basic machine maintenance
• Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers) for quality checks
• Maintain coolant systems and replace worn tooling to ensure efficiency
• Support programming, documentation, and general shop operations

• 2–4 years of CNC/machining experience
• Ability to program CNC machines (grinding preferred)
• Strong blueprint reading and inspection skills
• Experience with grinders and precision measurement tools
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Basic computer skills and strong attention to detail

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Carol Stream,IL.
