Associate Director, AI for Discovery — New Target Discovery

Associate Director role combining artificial intelligence and drug discovery biology at AstraZeneca's Cambridge site. Drives adoption of agentic AI and predictive modeling tools across therapeutic areas to accelerate target identification and validation for oncology and other disease areas.
Responsibilities
- Partner with therapeutic area scientists to identify high-impact use cases for AI-accelerated target discovery
- Deploy multi-agent AI systems into therapeutic workflows and translate AI capabilities into scientific insights
- Advise cross-functional teams on AI-driven approaches for target prioritization and investment decisions
- Contribute to development and benchmarking of predictive foundation models for in silico biology
- Build external visibility through publications, conference presentations, and scientific collaborations
Requirements
- PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, AI/ML, systems biology, or related quantitative field
- 5+ years post-doctoral or industry experience in computational/AI roles
- Expertise in agentic AI, LLM-based reasoning systems, or multi-agent architectures
- Experience with predictive AI modeling for biology: foundation models, graph neural networks, or perturbation models
- Deep understanding of drug discovery biology and target validation processes
- Strong Python proficiency and hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate scientific findings externally
