Examiner Nurse Practitioner

As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, charting from home when required, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran. Pay Rate: Base + Monthly Incentive = $145,184 - $175,177 a year Job Responsibilities Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: Perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Review and Analyze Medical Records: Assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran's medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: Provide unbiased and evidence‑based medical opinions regarding the extent of the veteran's health issues and their impact on the ability to work and carry out daily activities. Manage Case Work: Understand and work in the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance team. Collaborate With Healthcare Professionals: Coordinate and collaborate with specialists and experts for additional information and insights. Document Examination Findings: Accurately record findings and recommendations in clear reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Partner With Loyal Source Departments: Use support resources to meet deadlines and optimize performance. Ensure Compliance and Quality: Adhere to laws, regulations, standards, and maintain compliance with VA training requirements; stay updated on VA MDE program requirements. Maintain Confidentiality: Safeguard patient information per privacy and security protocols and HIPAA compliance. Chart From Home: Charting from home may be required for this position. Use Web-Based Examination Form: Record patient information using a proprietary online system during the examination process. Manage Scheduling and Availability: Ensure appropriate submission and confirmation of scheduling for all Compensation & Pension exams. Travel: 10% travel required to support other LSGS clinics and training events. Position Scope: This position does not involve prescribing or treatment planning/delivery. Qualifications Education and Licensing: Graduate of an accredited nursing school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practicing in any U.S. state, district, or territory. Experience: At least 1 year working as a Nurse Practitioner; preferred experience in conducting medical disability examinations or a related field. Specialized Training: Completion of training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous. Clinical Skills: Proficient in comprehensive assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based opinions. Empathy and Compassion: Compassionate and patient‑centered approach toward patients. Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex medical information. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to convey complex concepts clearly. Ethics and Integrity: Commitment to ethical standards, objectivity, and fairness. Detail Orientation: Focus on accuracy, data quality, and alignment with LS and VA standards. Organizational and Time Management: Manage multiple initiatives, adapt quickly, meet business needs in a fast‑paced environment. Customer Focus: Strong customer focus and urgency. Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the United States, including federal contractor requirements. Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense, follow detailed instructions, and handle problems with limited variables. Technological Ability: Competent with MS Word, Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, electronic medical records systems, and Teams. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing and sitting at a desk while working on a computer. Lift up to 15 pounds at times. Full range of motion required for comprehensive physical examinations. Travel Requirements 10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events. Schedule Requirements Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm standard schedule.
