Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year Job Description Job Overview Albertus Magnus High School, a coeducational Catholic high school in Rockland County, New York, is seeking a passionate and dynamic High School English Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026 2027 school year. The successful candidate will primarily teach Grade 9 English – World Literature. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator who will create an engaging, student-centered classroom that emphasizes close reading, analytical writing, discussion, research, and effective communication, while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education. Job Description Responsibilities Teach Grade 9 World Literature and, as assigned, Grade 10 British Literature. Deliver engaging instruction across a variety of literary genres, including novels, poetry, drama, short stories, speeches, essays, and literary criticism. Guide students in developing strong analytical, argumentative, and creative writing skills. Foster critical thinking through discussion-based instruction, Socratic seminars, collaborative learning, and project-based experiences. Integrate grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and research skills into daily instruction. Prepare students for college readiness through formal research writing, proper citation practices, and PSAT-aligned reading and writing skills. Utilize instructional technology and digital collaboration tools to enhance student learning. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of learners while maintaining high expectations. Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments, providing timely and meaningful feedback. Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages intellectual risk taking and respectful dialogue. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, interdisciplinary initiatives, and instructional best practices. Communicate effectively with students, parents, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress. Willingness to moderate a club, activity, or coach a sport is a plus. Experience Applicant must hold a Master\'s degree and New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts (7-12) or the equivalent. Prior experience teaching high school English is strongly preferred. Demonstrated expertise in literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary development, and research instruction. Experience teaching World Literature, British Literature, or advanced English coursework is preferred. Proven ability to develop engaging lesson plans utilizing instructional technology and project-based learning strategies. Well-versed in Project-Based Instructional and Assessment practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to inspire students to become thoughtful readers, skilled writers, and confident communicators. Experience in Catholic and/or private school environments is advantageous. Familiarity with standardized assessments, including PSAT preparation, and college preparatory curriculum is desirable. About The Curriculum The primary assignment includes Grade 9 World Literature, an accelerated college-preparatory course that surveys world literature from ancient Greece through contemporary works. Students engage in independent reading, literary analysis, creative writing, public speaking, research, and technology-enhanced collaborative learning while developing strong grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills. Students also complete a formal research paper using library resources, online databases, and proper MLA citation practices. Start Date This position begins with the 2026-2027 school year and is a 10-month faculty position.
