Position Overview: As a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, you will be instrumental in advancing our mission as a Pet Health and Wellness company by strengthening the bond between dog parents and their furry friends. Utilizing modern training techniques and positive reinforcement, you will help pet owners cultivate well‑behaved, healthy, and happy dogs. Your role includes conducting one‑on‑one training sessions, group classes, and providing tailored solutions for specific training goals. You will also engage with guests to offer personalized recommendations for their pets’ nutrition, wellness services, and necessary supplies. The Dog Trainer role involves two main responsibilities: Provide World Class Dog Training Services: Complete Petco's 6‑week Dog Trainer Instructor Program led by a certified mentor. Finish assigned learning modules and workbook materials as outlined in the training roadmap. Recommend and sell suitable dog training classes and supplies to enhance the training experience. Document training sessions, progress notes, and client feedback accurately. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times. Collaborate with grooming and veterinary teams for comprehensive health solutions. Engage in continuous training to stay updated in the field. Provide Comprehensive Solutions for Petco Guests: Deliver excellent guest experiences by assisting in selecting products and services to meet their needs. Foster relationships with guests to encourage future business and engagement with our digital platforms. Stay knowledgeable about animal care and handling to ensure the safety and well‑being of all pets. Assist with store operations to meet performance goals. Ensure merchandise is well‑stocked, priced, and displayed attractively. Process transactions and support guests with their omnichannel shopping experiences. Adhere to established operational procedures and guidelines. Promote a positive culture of teamwork and inclusion. Undertake additional duties and projects as assigned. Evaluate guest inquiries and communicate with the Leader on Duty as necessary. Other Essential Duties: Utilize Selling Behaviors: Your role is vital in creating exceptional guest experiences by identifying and addressing their needs. Contribute to a Safe Environment: Through our training programs, you'll be empowered to uphold safety protocols—ensuring the safety of partners, guests, and pets is our top priority. Certification Requirements: Stage 1: Complete the Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP) consisting of 6 weeks of instructor‑led training. Stage 2: Successfully manage and expand the dog training business in one of Petco’s locations with support from marketing and internal resources. Stage 3: Finish the Health & Wellness Certification Program for Dogs. Note: Experienced candidates passing assessments may qualify for accelerated training. Basic Qualifications: A sincere passion for animal care, training, and welfare with a focus on enhancing the lives of pets and their owners. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interactions with pet parents, providing clear guidance and selling techniques. Proven ability to handle dogs of various sizes and breeds in a humane way. Excellent organizational skills to manage tasks and prioritize effectively. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Physical stamina to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and remaining active during training sessions. Competence with computer systems for managing training records, schedules, and communication.
