Registered Nurse In Intensive Care Unit

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 3 years of recent ICU experience required, including either neuro or cardiovascular experience. License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Must-Have: Recent ICU experience (3 years) Experience in either neuro or cardiovascular care Ability to titrate drips Description: Auto-offer based on clinical prescreen. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience to be considered, with no exceptions. Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular care. UNA Dysrhythmia Exam is required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance of a position, with a maximum of 2 attempts allowed. There will also be a pass/fail simulation lab on Day 1 of orientation. Common types of patients include level 1 trauma cases, falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents, and trauma patients over the age of 15. Experience with specialty surgeries such as exploratory laparotomy, cranial surgeries, and specialty neuro-surgery cases is necessary. Common diagnoses include cerebrovascular accidents, status post thrombolysis, COVID-19, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. RNs are required to titrate various medications including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin. Charge nurses are available who do not take patients. There are no nurse aides on this unit, only sitters or health unit secretaries. Hospitalists or intensivists are available in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available in the ICU 24/7. RNs are required to interpret their own telemetry strips, with GE monitors being used. Self-scheduling is allowed, although the manager may need to balance shifts to address unit needs. Weekend requirements include working 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Night shift weekends are Fridays and Saturdays, while day shift weekends are Saturdays and Sundays. One holiday off may be allowed during an assignment. There is no additional call or standby requirement, although there may be low census situations up to 3 times per contract depending on unit needs. RNs may float to the telemetry unit with a patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 as needed. The scrub color for nursing staff is navy. Skills validations for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will occur as needed. Expectations include floating between units as required. RNs need to have prior experience working in a similar-sized intensive care unit.
