The Maintenance Supervisor provides day-to-day direction and supervision to maintenance employees to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of maintenance services in line with company policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable laws. This role serves as a key resource and escalation point for the team while actively coaching, mentoring, and developing maintenance staff to support reliable plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and assign daily jobs and work orders, providing clear direction to maintenance employees and ensuring effective pass-down of issues between shifts.

• Monitor maintenance activities to maintain an efficient, safe, and compliant maintenance operation.

• Ensure maintenance staff understand and follow established work practices, procedures, and safety standards.

• Assist the maintenance manager in ensuring all preventative maintenance work orders are completed within required timeframes.

• Support and participate in daily maintenance activities, including troubleshooting and repairs of equipment and systems.

• Actively support, implement, and schedule preventative maintenance programs and continuously monitor and adjust these programs as needed.

• Serve as the first point of contact for emergency maintenance requests and coordinate timely response and resolution.

• Oversee the repair and maintenance of all plant equipment to minimize downtime and support production needs.

• Assist in developing and refining procedures and policies for the maintenance department to improve reliability and efficiency.

• Complete and maintain accurate records using databases and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

• Support and lead root cause analysis efforts on equipment breakdowns or failures to ensure issues are fully addressed and long-term solutions are implemented.

• Assist the maintenance manager with capital projects and special projects, including planning, coordination, and execution.

• Work closely with inventory or supply personnel to ensure adequate inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.

• Demonstrate the ability to work independently and make sound, competent decisions in the absence of the maintenance manager.

• Stay current with emerging industry regulations, codes, and best practices related to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation.

• Provide training to staff on existing and new equipment, including safe operating and maintenance procedures.

• Perform supervisory activities such as administering promotions and transfers, reviewing and editing employee timekeeping, completing performance evaluations, and mentoring, training, and coaching employees.

• Lead by example in following good manufacturing practices (GMP) and working in a manner consistent with all regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.

• Support the selection, coaching, development, engagement, and retention of a high-performing maintenance team.

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the maintenance department.

Essential Skills

• Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 2 to 5 years of maintenance or related experience with demonstrated leadership aptitude, team lead experience, or supervisory experience.

• Proven experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.

• Experience leading and following safety policies and procedures in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Strong knowledge of facility equipment and industrial maintenance practices.

• Training or experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting for industrial control systems.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use company computer systems and CMMS tools.

• Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management.

• Ability to lead, instruct, and coach others on proper and safe maintenance procedures.

• Ability to perform preventative, productive, predictive, and scheduled maintenance procedures.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively and foster effective teamwork across shifts and departments.

• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks using sound independent judgment.

• Demonstrated initiative and follow-through on day-to-day responsibilities.

• Ability to adapt to changing operational needs and lead others through change.

• Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain a team of maintenance employees.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.

• Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and industrial maintenance, including electrical maintenance, mechanical systems, and industrial equipment repair.

• Experience with PLC control and electrical troubleshooting, including three-phase systems.

• Experience in maintenance repair, installation, and servicing of motors and related systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certification and/or licenses in areas such as electrical, welding, boiler, refrigeration, compressed air, wastewater, or plumbing are preferred and may be required during employment.

• Experience as a maintenance technician, maintenance lead, or similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Supervisory skills and experience managing or leading maintenance teams.

• Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing, and industrial installations.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.

• Experience with welding and fabrication in an industrial setting.

• Exposure to industrial maintenance environments involving PLC control, electrical troubleshooting, and three-phase power systems.

• Familiarity with good manufacturing practices (GMP) and food production or processing environments is an advantage.

• Comfort working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for scheduling and record keeping.

• Interest in obtaining or supporting boiler licenses and other relevant trade certifications.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility that processes products such as butter, sweetened and condensed milk, and cooking oil. The work environment includes warmer production areas due to melting and processing activities. You will work around industrial equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, and PLC-controlled machinery, using tools and technologies such as CMMS, Microsoft Office, and various diagnostic and testing equipment. The position requires adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP) and strict food safety, quality, and sanitation standards. You can expect a hands-on, plant-floor environment where you may need to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and attire suitable for a warm, food-processing, industrial setting, with frequent interaction across production, maintenance, and support teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of WINTHROP, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
