Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist on a flexible contract basis near Chicago, IL. This rewarding opportunity offers a part-time schedule of 20 hours per week, and is ideal for passionate educators committed to providing essential services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
What We're Looking For:
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Experience supporting students with hearing impairments in a school setting is highly valued
- Strong understanding of accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology for the DHH population
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or another recognized mode of communication for deaf or hard of hearing individuals
- Collaborative spirit for working alongside teachers, families, and support staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing impairments according to their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Develop accessible, engaging lesson plans and instructional activities tailored to individual student needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and classroom environments
- Participate in IEP meetings and offer expert guidance on best practices for supporting DHH students
- Advocate for access, inclusion, and communication equity within the educational setting
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and program effectiveness
