Ultimately, the Patient Access Specialist contributes to the overall quality of care by enabling timely access to medical services and fostering patient satisfaction.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.One year of previous experience in a healthcare clerical role preferably in patient registration or patient access or in a fast paced office/clerical position utilizing strong customer service skills.Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare staff.Training in HIPAA compliance and patient privacy regulations.Preferred QualificationsCertification as a Patient Access Specialist (CPAS) or similar credential.Experience working in a hospital or outpatient clinic setting.Familiarity with insurance verification tools and billing procedures.Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations.ResponsibilitiesGreet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring a welcoming environment.Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information accurately during the registration process.Schedule and confirm patient appointments, coordinating with clinical staff to optimize patient flow.Assist patients with understanding their insurance benefits, co-pays, and financial responsibilities.Maintain patient records and data entry with strict adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.Resolve patient inquiries and concerns promptly, escalating complex issues to appropriate departments.Collaborate with billing and clinical teams to ensure accurate documentation and smooth patient transitions.Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems to update patient information and track appointment statuses.Obtains referrals when necessary.SkillsThe Patient Access Specialist utilizes strong communication skills daily to interact empathetically and clearly with patients, ensuring they understand their healthcare options and financial responsibilities. Attention to detail is essential when verifying insurance information and entering patient data into electronic health record systems, minimizing errors that could impact billing or care delivery. Problem-solving skills are applied when addressing patient concerns or resolving scheduling conflicts, often requiring collaboration with clinical and administrative teams. Proficiency with technology, including EHR software and scheduling platforms, enables efficient management of patient information and appointment coordination. Additionally, knowledge of healthcare regulations and insurance processes supports compliance and helps the specialist guide patients through complex healthcare systems effectively.Variable days. 8 AM- 8PM Will work every other weekend. Pick up 4 extra hours on a designated day. Position is budgeted at 40 hours per week. Is eligible, if applicable for overtime pay and shift differential pay.
