A day in this role

You start your morning in our Sterling, VA headquarters by confirming that every gage and instrument you’ll touch is in calibration. Coffee in hand, you review customer requirements, engineering drawings, and specs, mapping out inspections for incoming materials, work-in-process, and finished parts. You queue up a PC-DMIS program on the CMM for a complex aerospace component, apply GD&T callouts, and validate dimensions. After lunch, you pivot to the FARO Arm and PolyWorks to capture critical features on a fabricated assembly, complementing the scan with manual checks using micrometers, calipers, height gages, indicators, and optical equipment. A First Article Inspection (AS9102) lands on your bench—you build out the report, document everything in High QA, and flag a potential nonconformance. You collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality to investigate root cause and recommend corrective action—all while maintaining meticulous records aligned to AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015 procedures. Before you wrap, you log non-destructive test results, straighten your bench, and ensure the area is clean, organized, and safe.

• Perform thorough inspections of incoming, in-process, and finished parts to verify compliance with customer, engineering, and quality requirements.
• Conduct dimensional inspections using precision tools and metrology systems; apply GD&T to evaluate features.
• Read and interpret complex drawings, blueprints, specifications, and tolerances.
• Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) with PC-DMIS.
• Inspect with FARO Arm equipment using PolyWorks; support laser/arm probe workflows.
• Create, complete, and maintain accurate dimensional inspection reports and quality documentation in High QA.
• Execute and document First Article Inspections (FAI), including AS9102 submissions.
• Perform applicable non-destructive inspections and tests per established procedures and qualifications.
• Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming material; assist with investigations and corrective actions.
• Verify calibration status of inspection and measuring equipment prior to use.
• Maintain complete records in accordance with company and quality system requirements.
• Follow AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality procedures, customer requirements, and work instructions.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe; support Quality Department and broader company needs as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED (additional technical or quality education/training preferred).
• Hands-on quality inspection experience in a precision metal manufacturing environment.
• Strong, practical command of GD&T and the ability to interpret complex engineering documentation.
• Proficiency with precision instruments: calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and optical equipment.
• CMM proficiency with PC-DMIS; FARO Arm proficiency with PolyWorks.
• Experience using High QA or comparable quality inspection software.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks or other 3D CAD for dimensional queries.
• Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015 (preferred) and experience performing and documenting dimensional inspections.
• Experience with FAI requirements and documentation (preferred); AS9102 familiarity (preferred).
• Ability to recognize and properly document nonconforming product.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills; professional collaboration with Production, Engineering, and Management.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize inspections, and support production schedules while upholding quality standards.
