NAVSEA Marine Pipefitting Journeyman
Everett Ship Service & Repair
Job Description
Job Description
Be the Expert Behind Reliable Marine Piping
Imagine applying your journeyman-level pipefitting skill on commercial vessels that demand precision and reliability. At Everett Ship Repair (ESR)—founded in 2019 in Everett, WA—we deliver repair, maintenance, and conversion services across commercial fleets, with a strong focus on workboats and passenger vessels. With major dry-docking capability and the U.S. Navy as our neighbor, we are intentionally growing our footprint, capabilities, and reputation to earn their business—backed by a team of veteran ship repair professionals who continuously elevate our methods.
Is This You?- Do you take pride in crafting tight-tolerance pipe spools and full piping systems that pass inspection the first time?
- Can you move seamlessly from shop fabrication to modular jigs and then to onboard fit-up and sea trials?
- Are you energized by working across systems—heating/cooling, refrigeration, fuel, engine cooling, exhaust, sewage, bilge/ballast, and fire suppression?
- Form, fit, and fabricate metal and nonmetallic piping systems to engineering drawings throughout construction/rebuild —spools, installation, and sea trials.
- Operate effectively in the fabrication shop, on modular jigs, and aboard completed assemblies.
- Lay out, cut, prep, and assemble spools and piping systems for modules and final assembly.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend to angle using hand/power tools and machines (cutters, threading machines, benders).
- Use pipe and union wrenches, threading machines, and tube/pipe benders daily.
- Read blueprints in both standard and metric to build complex systems, spools, and pipe foundations.
- Perform basic tack and minor welds using MIG and Arc processes.
- Operate shears, band saws, rollers, tube/pipe benders, and presses for metal forming.
- Cut steel, aluminum, and stainless steel using Oxygen/Propane torches.
- Collaborate within a team: communicate, adapt, interpret conditions, and problem-solve in real time.
- Uphold ESR’s safety culture with safe shipyard practices and rigorous housekeeping.
- Maintain positive relationships with peers and supervisors.
- Mentor less-experienced teammates and apprentices.
- Assist with other duties as they arise in a fast-paced yard.
- 5+ years as a Pipefitter with strong competency across fit, tack, thread, bend, and laterals.
- Proficiency with torches, cutting torch, band saws, rollers, presses, and shears.
- High school diploma/GED or vocational training.
- Ability to interpret drawings and blueprints.
- Basic MIG and arc welding skills.
- Knowledge of HVAC piping and condensation (drain).
- Familiarity with materials, methods, and tools for pipe assemblies.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of basic hydraulics.
- Experience with sewage piping systems.
- Interest in future leadership track.
- Experience with tubing and bending.
- Overtime flexibility.
- Lift/carry up to 50 lbs and work at heights of 60 ft.
- Enter confined spaces on a respirator; work in small spaces at odd angles.
- Ability to pass background check, drug test, and physical skills test prior to employment.
- Aluminum and steel fabrication experience.
- Shipyard background (new construction or repair).
- Plasma cutter experience.
- Forklift/manlift operation certifications or experience.
- Shipyard Competent Person certification.
- Cross-functional skills in Pipe and Carpentry.
- Leadership mindset.
