Purpose of Position Humane Colorado’s Veterinary Hospital team provides accessible high-quality, compassionate veterinary care to community pets using an incremental care approach. Through collaboration, innovation, and a focus on practical treatment options, we strive to improve animal welfare, strengthen the human- animal bond, and serve as a trusted resource within the veterinary community for families that are struggling to receive services for their pets. This position supports the full range of services offered by the Community Veterinary Services department, including urgent care, high-quality high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) surgery, preventative care and vaccine clinics. Based at Humane Colorado’s Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur in North Denver, staff veterinarians play a key role in advancing Humane Colorado’s mission by improving access to veterinary services, maximizing our impact, and strengthening connections within the community. In addition to delivering exceptional patient care, staff veterinarians work in a unique public-facing setting where services are provided “on view” for visitors to the CSU Spur campus. This offers opportunities to educate the public, engage with the community, and inspire future veterinary professionals through positive interactions and mentorship. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient examinations and develop diagnostic and/or treatment plan options using an incremental care approach for patients with urgent/sick care needs. Perform and interpret diagnostic studies including diagnostic imaging, bloodwork, and in-house cytology. Perform surgeries and comprehensive dentistry procedures, including surgical extractions, in an on-view setting. Provide end of life services. Opportunity to perform high-quality high-volume spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats. Conduct brief wellness examinations and provide vaccinations at high-quality high-volume vaccine clinics located within the organization’s priority neighborhoods. Effectively and compassionately communicate with owners of pets and the community. Manage and maintain accurate medical records using a cloud-based/digital practice management software system. Provide support and clinical mentorship to externs and interns, including direct observation, training, and assessment. Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures. Participate in regularly scheduled doctor meetings and journal clubs. Cultivate a culture of collaboration, teamwork and learning within veterinary services and throughout the organization. Opportunities to participate in donor events, meetings, and tours. Serve as a veterinary ambassador with community partners, promoting the mission, goals and strategic initiatives including Socially Conscious Sheltering and Animal Communities to veterinarians, vendors, the public, and other animal welfare related organizations. Compensation Starting at $110,000 – $120,000 annually– at Full Time 40 hours status (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity) Work Conditions and Physical Requirements The Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur provides an “on-view” experience for visitors to the CSU Spur campus. Staff joining the Community Veterinary Solutions team should expect that they will occasionally or regularly, depending on their work assignment, be working in an exam room, surgical suite or dentistry suite that is on-view through windows to a public audience. Handle and restrain animals of various sizes, weights, and temperaments. Subject to animal bites or scratches. Work performed in high noise level areas. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, urine and feces. Exposure to radiation in association with performing radiology procedures. Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, standing, climbing stairs, and walking. Repetitive motion associated with medical and surgical care provision for patients. Frequent lifting of animals and objects with reasonable accommodation. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Eligible to obtain a Colorado Veterinary License.
